Playing With / Jackhammered Conversation

Go To

Basic Trope: Some loud noise blocks out most of a conversation.
  • Straight: A jackhammer interrupts a large portion of Bobby's conversation.
  • Exaggerated:
    • A jackhammer interrupts the entire conversation.
    • Fifty jackhammers interrupt the conversation. At that point, the only way to even know that there's even a conversation at all is by reading the conversing people's lips!
  • Downplayed:
    • The jackhammer interrupts a tiny bit of the conversation or at least the important part.
    • The jackhammer is suprisingly quiet, and if you listen closely, you can clearly make out the conversation.
  • Justified: Construction is being done on the building they're in, so loud noises are to be expected.
  • Inverted: Everyone is talking over the jackhammer. In fact, the jackhammer can't even be heard!
  • Subverted:
    • The jackhammer interrupts the conversation, but everyone waits for it to finish before starting again.
    • The jackhammer interrupts the conversation, but Frank decides to let them finish first.
  • Double Subverted: Halfway through the conversation, Frank decides to activate the jackhammer again because he's just a jerk.
  • Parodied:
    • A musical quartet of jackhammers interrupted the conversation.
    • The jackhammer turns on at its own will, and usually at the worst time.
  • Averted: Jackhammers cease to exist.
  • Enforced: Rule of Funny.
  • Implied: Bobby talks about trying to mention something earlier, but being drowned out by a jackhammer.
  • Played for Laughs: The jackhammer interrupts Bobby because Bobby kicked its ancient ancestor, back when it was a rock.
  • Lampshaded: Bobby is interrupted by a jackhammer, and then says "Why the hell does a jackhammer ALWAYS go off when I speak?" Possibly while being interrupted by a jackhammer again.
  • Invoked: Bobby doesn't want to hear something, so he grabs the nearest jackhammer and goes to town.
  • Defied: Bobby destroys the jackhammer before continuing on.
  • Exploited:
    • The jackhammer distracts Alice, and Bobby uses that distraction to defeat her.
    • The jackhammers are being used to cover up some information that man was not meant to know.
  • Discussed: Bobby and Alice mention that there's been a lot of jackhammer noises lately for no reason.
  • Conversed: "Y'know, why are they even talking in a construction site? They won't even be able to hear each other because of the noise."
