Basic Trope: Someone gets the hiccups, and the rest of the characters try to get rid of them.

  • Straight: Harry gets the hiccups, and Pete and Jane try a number of folk cures such as making Harry drink water and hold his breath, and scaring him.
  • Exaggerated: Everyone in the entire world gets hiccups, causing a global crisis as everyone tries to cure them.
  • Downplayed: Harry's hiccups are quickly sorted out, and the episode continues as normal.
  • Justified: Harry ate too fast.
  • Inverted: Jane and Pete spend the entire episode trying to make Harry get the hiccups, but nothing seems to work.
  • Subverted: Harry gets the hiccups and asks for help, but the rest of the cast consider dealing with them to be unimportant.
  • Double Subverted: But then Jane gets the hiccups, and everyone drops everything to try and sort her out.
  • Parodied: The only cure is an twenty-two-step, extremely complicated process which must be performed absolutely perfectly the first time, or the hiccups stay forever.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted:
    • Nobody gets the hiccups.
    • Harry gets the hiccups, but does nothing about it.
  • Enforced: "We're running out of ideas for a plot. Hey, I know- let's have Harry get the hiccups, and make everyone else suggest humiliating cures! After all, nobody likes Harry, so it'll be funny to see him looking stupid."
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: Pete deliberately causes Harry's hiccups in order to make him late for his important meeting.
  • Exploited: Pete suggests 'cures' which make Harry suffer as much as possible, such as him drinking a bottle of Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce.
  • Defied: Harry refuses to try any of his friends' cures, because he knows they won't work.
  • Discussed: "Unlike what you've seen on TV, none of those random cures for hiccups actually work."
  • Conversed: "Why is it that on TV, people never try the one cure that's actually proven to work?"
  • Deconstructed: One of the suggested cures is scaring Harry. Since Harry is afraid of snakes, Pete startles Harry with his pet snake. However, Harry is shocked and angry his friends would do such a thing, and becomes distrustful of anyone who offers him friendship, eventually leaving his old life behind to live as a hermit.
