Basic Trope: A character that hates reading.
- Straight: Alice doesn't like to read, to the point in which she gets mad when a book is assigned for her English class to read.
- Exaggerated: Alice hates reading so much that she tries to destroy all books.
- Downplayed:
- Alice is okay with reading, but finds it fairly boring and would rather do something else.
- Alice doesn't mind shorter stories, but long stories can really take a toll on her.
- Justified:
- Alice is an Insufferable Imbecile.

- Alice used to enjoy reading, but has since lost the energy.
- Alice feels that reading is too hard, and there are activities that are much easier for her to do, such as watching a movie.
- Alice has dyslexia.
- Alice Never Learned to Read.
- Inverted: Alice loves reading, and may even go to the point in which she claims that New Media Are Evil.
- Subverted:
- Alice initially gets upset when her English class assigns a book, but it turns out that it's just because she didn't like that specific book.
- Or, she thought she wasn't going to like the book, but changes her mind once she actually reads it.
- Double Subverted: She doesn't like other books either, though.
- Parodied: Books are like Kryptonite to Alice.
- Zig-Zagged:
- Depending on the episode, Alice may enjoy or dislike reading.
- Alice has no problem with e-books, but isn't very fond of reading physical copies of books.

Alice considers this fair, and agrees. But it turns out that a trivia competition is what Bob had in mind, and Bob wins easily because Alice isn't an avid reader like Bob.
- Defied: Not wanting to be seen as dumb or anti-intellectual, Alice tries to find a book she'll enjoy.
- Discussed: "Alice hates reading. It's a wonder how she got through school."
- Conversed: "Do kids like Alice really hate reading in real life, or is the writer exaggerating?"
- Played for Drama: Alice doesn't like to read, but this is because she has dyslexia or another disability that makes reading very difficult for her.
Back to Hates Reading... uh, I don't want to read the main page, it's too long.
