Go To

Basic Trope: A villain who is highly energetic and quippy is contrasted with the stoic and serious hero.

  • Straight: Emperor Evulz is hammy and mocking towards Super Hiro, who is serious and reserved in the face of it.
  • Exaggerated: Emperor Evulz constantly yells, makes bad jokes, and overdramatises everything he does at all times, while Super Hiro fights him with an unchanging deadpan look, only replying with factual statements.
  • Downplayed:
  • Justified:
    • Emperor Evulz has to shout in order to be heard over his destructive machines, which may have also rendered him half-deaf. Super Hiro is a robot and is incapable of having out-of-proportion reactions.
  • Inverted: Emperor Evulz is serious while Super Hiro is hammy.
  • Subverted: Emperor Evulz strikes a dramatic pose as if he is about to start monologuing, before sitting down in a chair, putting on some reading glasses, and reading Super Hiro his evil plan. Likewise, Super Hiro seems about down with Emperor Evulz' nonsense and prepares to get on with the fight, only to change his mind last minute to start mocking him instead.
  • Double Subverted: Emperor Evulz gets bored reading his plan, and instead decides to enact it there and then, very loudly and dramatically, of course. Super Hiro mocking was only a ploy to get Evulz angry, so he can finish the job in good time.
