Basic Trope: A love interest who only appears in one episode/installment in a work and never appears again afterwards.

  • Straight: Bob romances a girl who is first introduced in one episode, but she never appears again after that.
  • Exaggerated: Bob breaks up with and begins dating a new girl after each commercial break.
  • Downplayed: Bob has more than one romance in the story, but they all are significant in some way and each lasts at least two episodes.
  • Justified:
    • Bob is Walking the Earth and isn't interested in settling down (even if the interest is mutual).
    • Bob is good-looking and successful, but is also not interested in commitment.
    • Bob is on a hero's quest of some kind, and none of the girls he romances in different towns on the way are able to accompany him for one reason or another.
  • Inverted: Bob and Alice have been dating since the start of the series, and when the series ends, they're married.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob begins dating a girl - and they're still dating during the next episode.
    • Carol, a girl Bob previously dated in one episode, returns and becomes a permanent Official Couple with him.
  • Double Subverted:
    • But halfway through the next episode, they break up.
    • But Carol and Bob break up and go their separate ways again at the end.
  • Parodied: Bob has a passionate romance in one episode with a girl he swears to never forget. Come next episode, Alice mentions the girl to him and he has no idea who she's talking about. He proceeds to romance other girls in other episodes, saying the exact same thing to them he did to the first one and forgetting them all instantly.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob has a longstanding on-again off-again relationship with Alice, but when they're broken up he's seen with a different parade of women. After much convoluted Love Triangle drama, he gets together with Alice for good.
  • Averted: Bob is either in a long-term relationship or doesn't date.
  • Enforced: The writers of the show like having an easy setup for a guest star, so Bob dates around.
  • Implied: Bob has a garbage can full of pictures of many different women with hearts on them.
  • Lampshaded: "You broke up with another girl? But you said she was definitely the one this time!"
  • Invoked: Bob actively seeks out different girls in different episodes for random flings because he knows he's not going to run into them again.
  • Exploited: A Femme Fatale, knowing that Bob always gets a new girlfriend on his adventures, seduces him as part of her evil plan.
  • Defied: Bob finally meets a woman who convinces him to settle down.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Gender-Inverted: Alice romances a boy who is first introduced in one episode, but he never appears again after that.
  • Deconstructed: Bob becomes depressed that he can never keep a long-term relationship and really get to know a woman.
  • Reconstructed: Bob doesn't really want a long-term relationship, so the situation isn't a problem for him.
  • Played For Drama: Bob doesn't keep long-term relationships because his enemies murder any woman who gets too close to him.
