Basic Trope: The difference between when a work is made and when it is set will be exactly decades, centuries or millennia.
- Straight: The work is made in 2007. It is set in 2077.
- Exaggerated:
- The work is made in 2007. It is set in 10002007.
- They made sure to state that the release date (e.g., January 15) is also the date when the events of the story begin from an in-universe perspective, and in-universe dialogue clarifies this.
- The work is set on July 7th, 7777.
- Downplayed: The work is made in 2007, and set in 2010.
- Justified: A time machine is invented in 2007, but can't travel to a specific time or year, instead traveling precisely decades.
- Inverted: The work is made in 2007, and set in 1987.
- Subverted: The work is made in 2007, but set in 7 BC.
- Double Subverted: The work is made in 2007, set in 7 BC for the first few minutes, and set in 7 AD for the rest.
- Parodied: The work, made in 2007, is set in 2076... Until the Ministry of Conveniently Placed Dates puts the protagonists' mission on hold for a year.
- Zig Zagged: The work constantly switches between decades after it was made and decades-and-a-quarter after it was made.
- Averted: The work is made in 2007. The story is set in 2082.
- Enforced: The writer feels it is easier to do the maths for the series this way.
- Lampshaded: "And here's my mother, Alice, getting married exactly 20 years ago. And here's my grandpa with her right after she was born exactly 50 years ago. Oh, and this photo is when my dad had his graduation exactly 30 years ago."
- Invoked: A character believes all the interesting things happen exty years in the future.
- Exploited: A hero decides to guard Emperor Evulz's tomb extra hard on the 10th, 20th, 50th, and 100th anniversaries of the emperor's cryogenic slumber. When Emperor Evulz wakes up, the hero is ready for him.
- Defied: ???
- Discussed: "Why do you always go literally decades in the future?" "Anything else seems the same, and it's easier to type in the 'decade plus' button than '2…0…9…5.'"
- Conversed: "Why does everything happen decades in the future in this comic?"
- Implied: The work doesn't state the date, but it includes an astronomic event who's next occurrence is (or was) due to happen exty years from the date of publication. note
- Deconstructed: In the 2077 setting people mock how inaccurate people's idea of change-by-decades was back in 2007.
