Basic Trope: A man has an extra Y chromosome, which makes him violent.

  • Straight: Bob is an extremely violent man with an extra Y chromosome.
  • Exaggerated: Bob is both violent and a psychopath, all because of his extra Y.
  • Downplayed: Bob's extra Y makes him destructive and/or mouthy, but he never actually attacks people or animals.
  • Justified: An extra Y chromosome can lead to learning disabilities and Bob has trouble controlling his temper due to a learning disability.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob's extra Y chromosome actually makes him pacifistic.
    • Bob has an extra X chromosome that makes him pacifistic.
    • Bob has an extra X chromosome that makes him aggressive.
    • Bob is a trans man with no Y chromosomes, but is nevertheless highly aggressive.
  • Gender Inverted: Alice has an extra X chromosome that either makes her violent or makes her into an extremely stereotypical woman.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob genetically-engineers himself to get rid of his extra Y chromosome and finds himself still just as violent as he was before.
    • Bob wants to be aggressive for some reason, so he genetically-engineers himself to have an extra Y chromosome. All it does is make him taller.
    • Later on, the show introduces Charlie, who also is XYY, but he's not violent— just tall and dyslexic.
  • Parodied: Somehow, Bob only has Y chromosomes.
  • Zigzagged: By some strange coincidence, all the males on the show have an extra Y, and they all have varying levels of aggression from zero to extreme.
  • Averted:
    • Bob has a normal amount of chromosomes.
    • Bob does have an extra chromosome, but he has the normal amount of X and Y chromsomes.
    • Bob does have an extra Y chromosome, but he's not violent— just very tall and possibly has a learning disability.
  • Enforced:
  • Lampshaded: "But that's not how XYY syndrome works!"
  • Invoked: Alice, Bob's mother, is evil and she genetically-engineers her son to give him an extra Y chromosome, so that he will be evil too.
  • Exploited: The villain actively seeks out minions with extra Y chromosomes.
  • Defied: People genetically-engineer boys in utero so that they won't have an extra Y chromosome, for fear of them becoming violent.
  • Discussed:
Diane: "I just found out after getting married that my brother-in-law has an extra Y chromosome! Should I be worried?!"
  • Conversed: "As an XYY man, I'm so sick of us being portrayed as monsters!"
  • Implied: Bob is violent and said to have an extra chromosome, but it's never revealed which one.
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
  • Played for Laughs: Bob has superpowers that activate when he's angry, which is often because of his extra Y chromosome.
  • Played for Drama: Bob wishes he wasn't so aggressive and hates his genetics.
  • Played for Horror: Bob is a Serial Killer with an extra Y chromosome.
