Basic Trope: All the characters (or at least all the main ones) hate fruit cake or it is unpopular.
- Straight: All the characters except Alice hate fruit cake and despise it when Alice gives it to them.

- Everybody, including some aliens that visit Earth, hate it, and to top it off, Even the Rats Won't Touch It.
- Fruitcake is outlawed worldwide. Serving it counts as a human rights violations, even to death row inmates.

- All the characters except Alice happen to dislike it.
- They have only eaten Alice's fruit cakes and she buys her cakes from a bad baker or is a Lethal Chef.
- They have never tried fruit cake before and have heard it being called yucky and decided they would rather not.
- Alice is a pixie and genuinely adores fruitcake. She thinks Christmas is a great time specifically because all her friends give her the fruitcakes they don't want, so she deliberately seeks out people who dislike fruitcake to befriend.
- Inverted: Everyone loves fruit cake.
- Subverted:
- When they try some fruit cake, they like it.
- Bob refuses to eat fruitcake. When asked why he mentions he already lost one tooth to it and laments he can't eat a 'proper' one anymore.
- Double Subverted:
- But they were just acting.
- Bob's idea of a proper fruitcake isn't what most people would consider a fruitcake.
- Parodied: Fruit cake is hated as much as Nazis in this universe.
- Zig Zagged: Bob hates Alice's fruit cake, but Charlie likes it, but Dave doesn't, but he was just joking, but Emily doesn't like it, but only if it's served in a certain way.
- Averted:
- Everyone likes fruit cake.
- Nobody is seen eating it.
- Nobody is seen eating onscreen at all.
- Enforced: The writers hate fruit cake themselves, so they decided to make their characters hate it.
- Lampshaded: "I hate fruitcake!" "Who doesn't?"
- Invoked: Alice deliberately makes a bad fruitcake to prevent Bob, Charlie, Dave, and Emily from asking her for food.
- Exploited:
- Alice is really sick of the Dinner and a Show she's getting from her Jerkass relatives, so she serves fruitcake for dessert in the hopes they get the hint and leave.
- The Big Eater is the only one who likes fruitcake, so they eat the cake everyone else refuses.
- Defied: Alice refuses to make fruit cake, so there is no fruitcake to hate.
- Discussed: "How come nobody likes my fruitcake?" "I dunno, maybe it's a thing with your friends."
- Conversed: "How come everybody in stories and on TV hates fruit cake?"
- Implied: Bob is seen spitting out some fruitcake.
- Deconstructed: A holiday baking contest really wants to make things difficult by challenging the contestants to make a good-tasting fruitcake.
- Reconstructed: One of the contestants in the baking challenge nails it by using high quality ingredients and tweaking the recipe so that there's a lighter, spiced cake with recognizable bits of candied ginger, orange, lemon and just the right amount of rum. It's definitely not a traditional fruitcake, but it's still a fruitcake.
- Played For Laughs: Alice brings out the fruitcake, and all the party guests suddenly "have pressing appointments" they have to attend to which make them unable to stay for dessert.
- Played For Drama: It's Christmas after Apocalypse How, and the only thing left to eat is the fruitcake due to it being soaked in alcohol to keep from spoiling. No one actually likes it, but it's the last bit of Christmas left.
- Played for Horror: Alice must make every Plague Zombie eat a fruitcake which has the cure laced in it, which proves difficult since the plague zombies hate fruitcake.
