Basic Trope: A character dies while standing up.
- Straight: Emperor Evulz, upon getting run through by Sir Robert's Sword in Tales of Troperia, refuses to drop dead, standing up as his life leaves his body.
- Exaggerated: Evulz is dead stiff; He can't even be knocked down.
- Downplayed:
- Evulz does a Knee Fold Fall of Defeat, but only remains kneeling instead of dropping face first as usual.
- Evulz didn't die, but he lost consciousness while standing up.
- Justified:
- Rigor mortis kicked in for Evulz.
- Evulz maintained a sturdy and balanced posture as he died, making it hard for him to fall.
- Evulz is a Time Master, and his powers react to his death by capturing his final moment of life before he expires, hence why he remains standing up after death.
- Inverted:
- Evulz is brought Back from the Dead while standing up.
- Evulz is brought Back from the Dead while laying down.
- Evulz is killed while already prone.
- Subverted: Evulz is literally on his back when he gets run through by Sir Robert's Sword.
- Double Subverted: Then he stands up, and promptly dies once he's on his two feet.
- Parodied: Everyone, out of respect for Evulz' Villainous Valor, puts him in a coffin while he's still standing up, and buries him vertically.
- Zig-Zagged: Evulz is consistently killed and brought back to life on an episodic / chapterly basis in a work where Death Is Cheap, so whether or not he does this trope or actually does fall is Depending on the Writer.
- Averted: Evulz just slumps onto his back or on his belly when he dies.
- Enforced: Rule of Drama, Rule of Cool.
- Lampshaded: "He hasn't fallen, even when he's dead? Guy must be real tough."
- Invoked: Evulz, not wanting to be made a coward, explicitly casts a spell on his own body so that he doesn't fall when he dies.
- Exploited: Evulz' manner of death boosts the morale of those who saw it.
- Defied: Sir Robert makes sure to pin Evulz to the floor with the sword, completely negating all possibility of Evulz standing up in death.
- Discussed: "Evulz was so brave and strong, that even in death, he refused to fall."
- Conversed: "He's gonna fall down now. Any second now."
Good grief... The main page is still standing, even after being taken out by Cuthbert Lizst.
