Basic Trope: A character completely freezes in fear as they are about to be attacked.
- Straight: Bob freezes in fear as he sees Emperor Evulz running at him with a knife to attack him.
- Exaggerated: Bob immediately gets fully paralyzed whenever he sees someone coming toward him, even if it's just someone trying to give him something.
- Downplayed:
- Bob only freezes for a few seconds when he sees Evulz running towards him with a knife, but snaps out of it quickly and beats Evulz up to a pulp.
- Bob instinctively gets into a defensive position when he sees Evulz running at him with a knife, but doesn't move.
- Justified: Bob was having his Heroic BSoD at the time because he saw Evulz kill Alice, his wife, so he didn't expect Evulz to attack him.
- Inverted: Bob, who usually doesn't move, suddenly attacks Evulz when Evulz runs towards him with a knife before freezing in place again.
- Subverted: It turns out that it was just a wax model of Bob that Bob placed there to fool Evulz.
- Double Subverted: Evulz quickly realizes that it was a decoy and starts heading for Bob, and he freezes for real this time.

- Averted: Bob sees Evulz running towards him with a knife and Bob immediately attacks Evulz.
