- Straight: Bob and Alice have a friendly duel. Alice is killed.
- Exaggerated: Bob and Alice have a friendly duel. Alice isn't just killed - she's straight up GONE.
- Downplayed: Bob and Alice have a friendly duel. Bob accidentally cuts Alice's arm, but it's nothing a few layers of bandage can't fix.
- Justified: A freak accident happened, leading to Bob losing his balance and stabbing Alice in the heart.
- Inverted: Bobby and Alice are arch-enemies and fight to the death. In this battle they realize that in reality, they're lovers!
- Subverted: Bob and Alice have a friendly duel. Alice gets gravely wounded... but not really.
- Double Subverted: She dies. Delayed Causality strikes again!
- Invoked: Dracone dips Bob's sword into a toxin so any wound he inflicts during the sparring match will be 100% lethal, even if it's only a scrape.
- Exploited: Alice was secretly the villain. She's dead now, so the journey is over, technically...
- Averted: The two agree that, with the risk something happening, it's probably better to just... not.
- Played for Drama: Bobby and Alice are the last two people in the tournament, but they're best friends. Only one can live.
- Played for Horror: Played for Drama, but with a more sinister context, such as the two being forced to fight for the entertainment of a Complete Monster or they're both going insane and don't know if they're real or not.
- Played for Laughs: The moment either dies in the friendly duel, the other lets out a pithy ribbing at how they're being sore losers.
