- Alice doesn't dance unless she's not accompanied.
- Alice is dancing when everyone else is out of town.
- Downplayed:
- There are other people present, but they're not dance partners.
- Alice is sort of bobbing up and down but not doing a proper dance.
- Only toys/pets/Companion Cube's/Imaginary Friend's/etc are present, except for Alice who's dancing.
- Justified:
- Alice is listening to music in her room.
- Alice is practicing a dance and there is no one around.
- Alice is rehearsing a dance for a Surprise Party.
- Alice was very happy for some reason.
- Inverted: A whole crowd of people dance.

- Then, Bob walks over and dances with her.
- Double Subverted:
- But she dances after it leaves.
- Bob leaves, and she keeps dancing.
- Parodied: Alice waltzes with her clone.
- Averted: Nobody dances by themselves, if at all.

- Enforced:
- Lampshaded: "I'm a skillful dancer, too bad there's no one around to watch."
- Invoked: Bob puts Alice into a room by herself and plays music.
- Exploited:
- Defied: Alice refuses to dance solo.
- Discussed: "Are other people really necessary for dancing?"
- Conversed: "That character's a good solo dancer."
- Implied:
- Deconstructed: Alice has been dancing alone for too long that she feels unsuited to join dance parties.
- Reconstructed: Turns out, Alice doesn't need friends because her "dance party" is, in fact, a solo act.
- Played for Laughs:
- Played for Drama: Alice is doing this because she is lonely and cannot find a partner.
