Basic Trope: A character comes out of a body of water with aquatic animals/plants on them.

  • Straight: Bob falls into the ocean, and when he comes out, there is an octopus on his head.
  • Exaggerated: Bob steps in a puddle, and when he takes his foot out, a giant shark is biting his ankle.
  • Downplayed: Bob swims through a kelp forest and gets a little kelp stuck on him.
  • Justified: A crab got onto Bob's head first, and the octopus stuck to Bob's head to catch it.
  • Inverted: The octopus climbs out of the ocean, then goes back in with Bob holding onto it.
  • Subverted: The octopus is actually just a toy that fell in the ocean. Bob brought it out to reduce pollution.
  • Double Subverted: Bob then turns around, revealing to the camera that a starfish is stuck to his back, and he doesn't realize.
  • Parodied: Bob goes underwater with a sign reading "Free ride for clingy sea creatures."
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob goes underwater several times. Sometimes the creatures cling to him, sometimes they don't.
  • Averted: Bob falls into the ocean and comes out sopping wet, but nothing more.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: "Every time I go in the ocean, the creatures swarm all over me! Who do they think I am, Ariel?"
  • Invoked: Bob puts an octopus on his head while underwater, thinking it'll get a laugh out of his friends.
  • Exploited: Bob's strategy for octopus fishing is to simply dive into the ocean, knowing that an octopus will be attached to him by the time he comes out.
  • Defied: There is nothing in the water that could get stuck on Bob.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played for Laughs: Bob comes out of the water with an octopus on his head, prompting laughs from his friends and the audience. (Note: This trope is usually Played for Laughs in general, though it's not necessarily required to be.)
  • Played for Drama: Bob comes out of the water with an octopus stuck to his head, thinking it will make Alice laugh. However, it turns out that Alice has a deep, subconscious fear of sea creatures due to a traumatic incident involving them that she experienced as a child, and Bob's attempted joke causes her to have a panic attack.
  • Played for Horror: Bob falls into the water. Unfortunately, this is a movie about killer sea creatures. He comes back out with an octopus stuck to his head, which kills him.
