Basic Trope: A character or generation is born after an apocalyptic event.
- Played Straight: Bob is born from Alice about ten years after a nuclear war.
- Exaggerated: Bob is born (somehow) after a Gendercide.
- Downplayed: Bob was born during or shortly before the apocalypse, so he effectively has no personal knowledge of the world before.
- Justified:
- Bob's parents wished to avoid conceiving a child in the midst of the apocalypse and waited until they were under relatively safer conditions.
- Those who survived the apocalypse immediately went to work trying to replenish the human population lost.
- Civilization might have ended but human libido has not.
- Implied: It's not directly pointed out, but Bob is an adult who can't recognize commonplace modern things, compared to his mother Alice who speaks with personal experience about them.
- Lampshaded: "All these kids were born after the nuclear war, was there just some massive baby boom after the fallout cleared out?"
- Played For Drama: A major theme of the story is the different values Bob and Alice have as a result of the former being part of one of the first generations born post-apocalypse.
