Basic Trope: A musician who is blind.

  • Straight: Bob is blind and a musician.
  • Exaggerated:
    • All the musician characters are blind.
    • Bob, who has been completely blind since birth, is a savant who can play most instruments with ease and has composed for entire orchestras despite never being able to read sheet music.
  • Downplayed:
    • Bob is partially sighted.
    • Bob may not be legally blind, but he sure is Blind Without 'Em.
    • Bob enjoys playing at least one instrument as a hobby, but has no plans to professionally pursue music.
  • Justified:
    • Bob enjoyed music before going blind.
    • Bob loves the arts and he chose a field where his disability would not affect his performance.
    • Because Bob is blind, his hearing improved to compensate, making him a better musician.
  • Inverted:
    • Bob is a deaf visual artist.
    • Or Bob is a musician in spite of his deafness.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob's vision is restored.
    • It turns out Bob was Obfuscating Disability.
    • Bob was merely assumed to be blind due to his signature dark sunglasses, and is in fact sighted.
    • It turns out Bob doesn't actually write any of his own music or sing or play on any of his recordings.
  • Double Subverted:
    • But then he's blinded again (#1)/for real (#2 and 3).
    • For #4; Then he starts doing so.
  • Parodied:
    • The moment Bob goes blind, he becomes a musical savant.
    • The more skilled Bob gets with an instrument, the worse his eyesight gets.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob is completely blind and a musical savant but Charlie is also blind and cannot play worth a damn. On the other hand, Donna is sighted and an excellent musician.
  • Averted:
    • Bob is blind, but he doesn't even play music as a hobby.
    • Bob is a musician, but he's sighted.
    • Bob is neither blind nor a musician.
  • Enforced: Bob is blind and thinks that the only way to become happy and popular is to be a musician.
  • Lampshaded:
  • Invoked:
    • Alice intentionally blinds Bob, who is already a successful musician.
    • Alice encourages Bob, who is blind, to pick up music.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: ???
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: While it's never stated if Bob is blind, he's never shown without his signature sunglasses, even when he's playing in a dimly lit club.
