Basic Trope: A fight sequence, usually in a video game, takes place in a surreal, brightly colored space.
- Straight: Emperor Evulz, the Final Boss of Tropers, is fought at the end of the Doom Dimension. He gets a battle arena that looks like it's inside a planetary nebula, full of brightly colored cosmic clouds.
- Exaggerated: Every single boss in Tropers is fought in the cosmic battle arena, even the Warm-Up Boss.
- Downplayed: Evulz can suck you into a Hell Gate that creates this effect when it appears, but the trippiness goes away once the attack ends.
- Justified: Evulz has the power to warp reality around him, which naturally results in a lot of trippy visual effects.
- Inverted: The rest of Tropers is a Disney Acid Sequence in video game form, but you fight Evulz in an ordinary, shabby-looking office cubicle.
- Subverted: When you confront Evulz, he snaps his fingers and teleports you to his castle, which isn't trippy at all.
- Double Subverted: But Evulz's second form is fought back in the Doom Dimension, and that gets the cosmic battle arena.
- Parodied:
- Evulz tries to fight in the cosmic battle arena, but he's barred entry because too many villains are already using it.
- Evulz immediately gets nauseous from all the bright colors swirling around him and starts vomitting.
- The Hero and The Lancer argue over whether vanilla or chocolate ice cream is better. The scenery inexplicably changes to the Doom Dimension's boss arena.
- Zig-Zagged: ???
- Averted: The Doom Dimension is mostly black and empty, like outer space is in real life.
- Enforced: The developers of a Retraux video game still want to show off their artistic and technical prowess, so they create a trippy background with Genius Programming.
- Lampshaded: "Nice arena, Evulz. If you were going for the whole 'Final Boss' thing, you nailed it."
- Invoked: The Doom Dimension is mostly a Bleak Level, but Evulz creates a trippy rainbow effect when he Turns Red as a show of his power.
- Exploited: Evulz, noticing what the battlefield looks like, casts light magic to make it too bright and colorful to see.
- Defied: Before the boss battle, the heroes get the drop on Evulz by unleashing a Combination Attack that blows all the color away.
- Discussed: "General Drake isn't our man. If he was, he definitely would've tried to kill us in a Technicolor hurricane by now."
- Conversed: "Why does every video game villain feel the need to fight you someplace that looks like a bad acid trip?"
- Deconstructed: Evulz has epilepsy and doesn't know it. When he tries to fight the heroes in the Doom Dimension, all the bright colors and flashing lights give him a seizure so severe that he chews through his own tongue and dies.
