Basic Trope: In the main story, a superpowered character fails to solve real-world problems, but in an alternate universe or What If? story, they do.

  • Straight: While the main universe version of Amazing Girl does not use her powers to cure cancer, the Earth-2 version of Amazing Girl does.
  • Exaggerated: The main universe Amazing Girl only uses her powers for trivial purposes whereas Earth-2 Amazing Girl creates a utopia.
  • Downplayed: The main universe Amazing Girl only cures coughing, whereas Earth-2 Amazing Girl manages to cure colds.
  • Justified:
    • Amazing Girl swore not to use her powers for mundane purposes in our universe, but never did this on Earth-2.
    • Earth-1 Amazing Girl was educated by Apathetic Teachers who merely taught by rote, Earth-2 Amazing Girl, on the other hand, was educated by engaging teachers who encouraged critical thinking, allowing her to see the broader spectrum of her powers' uses.
  • Inverted: In the main universe, the world is irrevocably changed because of Amazing Girl's powers, but on Earth-2, Amazing Girl is just a superhero.
  • Subverted: Cancer is cured on Earth-2, but contrary to assumptions, Amazing Girl didn't do it.
    • The "alternative universe" becomes the setting equivalent of a Breakout Character and becomes effectively the main universe plots were generic compared to one which can handle philosophical and far flung hypotheticals like "what is the difference between being physiologically aged and experienced and eternally young and experienced"?
  • Double Subverted: It later turns out she did and is just too much of a Humble Hero to take credit.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig-Zagged: Both versions of Amazing Girl solve some problems but not others in their respective universes.
  • Averted: No alternate universes with increased superhero intervention appear.
  • Enforced: The producers ban big changes to the world thanks to Amazing Girl's powers because Status Quo Is God, but the writers want to explore potential realistic applications, so keeping all changes in an alternate universe is a compromise.
  • Lampshaded: "Why can't you be more like her? She actually solves her world's problems!"
  • Invoked: Earth-2 is created by cosmic beings as a universe without rules about powers as an experiment to see what would happen.
  • Exploited: People smuggle Earth-2 technology back to Earth-1 and use it for various purposes.
  • Defied: Knowing other universes might have other applications for her powers, Amazing Girl shuts down all attempts at building interdimensional portals.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Deconstructed:
    • People become very angry at Amazing Girl when they see what she can do in an alternate universe and fails to do here.
    • Earth-2 Amazing Girl is the world's best healer, which causes her to steadily lose her privacy and her sanity. By contrast, her Earth-1 version has a more fulfilling life.
  • Played for Drama: In the alternate universe, Amazing Girl has to resort to extreme measures to solve the world's problems, turning her into a feared, Well-Intentioned Extremist who successfully accomplishes her morally ambiguous goals.
