* Creator/NaoTouyama is best known for voicing boisterous and outgoing GenkiGirl[=s=] who oftentimes pepper their sentences with GratuitousEnglish, such as [[Manga/KiniroMosaic Karen Kujo]], [[Manga/{{Nisekoi}} Chitoge Kirisaki]], and the [[VideoGame/KantaiCollection Kongou and Takao Sisters]]. Then, there is the soft-spoken and reserved [[Anime/MacrossDelta Reina Prowler]], a character who contrasts so much with her previous roles one may very well be surprised she received a Singing Award for her performance as said character during the 15th Seiyuu Awards. There's also [[Manga/{{GATE}} Lelei la Lalena]], another introverted character very similar in demeanor to Reina who sometimes wears a hazmat suit and gas mask to reflect how cautious she is, and to a lesser extent [[Literature/GoblinSlayer High Elf Archer]], who acts far more serious compared to her other, more comedic roles.

* Creator/AllesandroJulliani: The actor who played L in the English dub of ''Manga/DeathNote'' had previously mainly voice acted as the Prince Charming equivalents in the ''Franchise/{{Barbie}}'' movies. This is '''really''' playing against the type when you consider that L is said to be socially awkward and has no luck in romantic areas. Not that L really cares.

** And then there's [[Literature/HaruhiSuzumiya Kyon]], the GenericGuy, TokenHuman[=/=]TeamNormal, and OnlySaneMan among the SOS Brigade.

* Creator/MistuhiroIchiki is noted by this wiki to "play teenage boys, often leaning heavily towards the JerkAss spectrum." In ''Literature/TanteiTeamKZJikenNote'', he plays Kozuka, the local {{Adorkable}} guy and the {{nice|guy}}est of the Detective Team's boys. This stands out in a cast which also includes the KidHero, TheSocialExpert, and the StoicSpectacles.

** [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3 The Boss.]] Though in this case [[spoiler: she really is a [[ApronMatron good mother and mentor]]... she just can't [[TheMole show it]]]].

** There is also [[Franchise/{{Neptunia}} Iris Heart]], a super [[EvilIsSexy sadistic goddess]] of a {{Dominatrix}} in a {{Stripperific}} outfit who also has a thing for DoubleEntendre.

** Insarn, the [[EvilIsSexy sexy]] EvilGenius in ''Series/KaizokuSentaiGokaiger''.

* Creator/RyuseiNakao in the past sometimes does more than the screechy voiced sadistic, mostly villainous men he's known for (and very [[MeanCharacterNiceActor UN-like]] his NiceGuy RealLife behavior). In ''Anime/GoLion'', he played as the SacrificialLamb (but still heroic) Shirogane (''Anime/{{Voltron}}'' fans will recognize him as Sven), and in ''Literature/TheMoomins'' 1990 anime he played the ButtMonkey comic relief character Sniff.

** He's also often cast as bright, happy-go-lucky boys like so it's downright surprising to find out that he also voices the villainous [[Manga/MyHeroAcademia Dabi]].

** [[TheOtherDarrin Replacing]] the late Creator/TomokoKawakami as [[ActionGirl Miu Furinji]] in ''Manga/KenichiTheMightiestDisciple''. She is very well-endowed as [[BoobsOfSteel much as she can kick ass]] as well a NiceGirl rather than a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.

** In the aforementioned ''[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Gundam 00]]'', there's the cute and non-Tsundere [[GenkiGirl Nena]] [[{{Moe}} Trinity]]... [[spoiler:[[CuteAndPsycho HEY WHAT ARE]] [[WhamEpisode YOU SHOOTING AT?!?!]]]]

** Actually, Bosch has a ''second'' secondary type other than playing slimy anti-heroes/villains: the soft spoken/whiny young boys. There are [[Anime/EurekaSeven Renton]] and [[Anime/LastExile Claus]] among quite a few others.
** And by ''Literature/FateZero'', he plays a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] man named Ryuunosuke who loves to see people dying in brutal ways.

** She's also young Chichi in ''Manga/DragonBall''. Between Lust, Harribel, and Young Chichi's [[{{Stripperiffic}} wardrobe]], [[{{Fanservice}} we're sensing a pattern with her characters' designs]] despite the characters' personalities being completely different.

* Creator/MamoruMiyano normally plays Bishounen type characters with boyish voices, but in ''VisualNovel/SteinsGate'', he played Okabe Rintaro who is far from bishounen and is deep-voiced. As a result, he has Creator/JMichaelTatum as his English language correspondent while he normally has Creator/ToddHaberkorn and/or Creator/VicMignogna in other [=FUNimation=] dubs and/or non-[=FUNimation=] dubs.

** And then there's [[Manga/TokyoGhoul Shuu]] [[AxCrazy Tsukimiya]] (who also has Creator/JMichaelTatum as his English voice).

* And speaking of ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'', Creator/NolanNorth as [[spoiler: Madara Uchiha.]]
** Nolan also almost exclusively portrays the {{Mook|s}} characters, [[AlienInvaders The Kraang]], in the [[WesternAnimation/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles2012 most recent incarnation of TMNT]].

* The late Creator/RobertAxelrod, best known as ''Franchise/PowerRangers'''s [[BigBad Lord Zedd]] and MadScientist Finster, played BadassAdorable AntiHero[=/=]AntiVillain Wizardmon.

* Creator/MelissaFahn is mostly known for voicing [[WesternAnimation/InvaderZim Gaz]] and [[Anime/DigimonTamers Rika Nonaka]], which they share the same personality. Too bad [[Anime/DigimonDataSquad Kristy Damon]] opposes them by personality.
** Or even [[VideoGame/SakuraWarsSoLongMyLove Rosita Aries]], an energetic and free-spirited PluckyGirl TagalongKid.

* Creator/JerryJewell (known for his sinister or PrettyBoy roles) plays a bat named Nazo "Kou" Koumori in ''Manga/RosarioPlusVampire'' who pops up during random intervals to [[BreakingTheFourthWall fill the audience in on information]], and who also happens to be [[spoiler: Kokoa Shuzen's sidekick and shape-shifting weapon of choice]]. However, in one later episode it is revealed that Kou [[spoiler: has a teen human formed "Kotaro Ijuuin", and this character is right up Jewell's ally, making this arguably a SubvertedTrope]].

** And now she plays the infamous [[CuteIsEvil cute psychopath]] Nui Harime in ''Anime/KillLaKill''.

* Creator/JMichaelTatum, often voices [[TheStoic stoic]] characters (often as the TheSmartGuy with [[StoicSpectacles glasses]]) like [[Manga/OuranHighSchoolHostClub Kyoya]] and [[Manga/BlackButler Sebastian]]. However, in addition to the likes of [[TheDitz the idiotic]] [[Literature/{{Baccano}} Isaac]] and the [[AxCrazy psychotic]] [[Manga/TokyoGhoul Tsukimiya]] as stated above, he also voices Dororo from ''Anime/SgtFrog'', whom despite appearing to be [[TheStoic stoic]] at first, is also a [[TheWoobie wimpy]] ButtMonkey.

* ''LightNovel/{{Kampfer}}'': Most of the cast is Playing Against Type, notably Creator/KaoriNazuka as Shizuku, Creator/YukariTamura as Seppuku Kuro Usagi, Creator/NanaMizuki as Kanden Yamaneko, [[spoiler:Creator/MamikoNoto as Chissoku Norainu]], Creator/YuiHorie as Akane (who’s mouth is [[SirSwearsALot very filthy]]). Subverted, however, with [[Creator/MegumiNakajima Ranka]] [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Lee]] as [[LoveInterest Kaede Sakura]], [[spoiler:then double subverted as [[BitchInSheepsClothing she’s the worst offender]]- Ranka Lee as a PsychoLesbian BigBad?]]
