Nightmare Fuel / Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

Go To

  • Many of the bosses are ones that Adol has fought before, now with their horrid, grotesque designs in full 3D.
  • One of Zola’s and Chatelard’s experiments escapes, wrecking havoc in Balduq’s Restricted Sector while its roars cause any animal that hears it to become terrified. When the Monstrums break into the prison, they find the source of the roar... and see that it’s a Avalodragil, a Primodial that should only exist as fossils after the events of Ys VIII. Thankfully the Monstrums didn’t need any orichalcum weaponry to take it down but the creature was strong enough that the Monstrums note that it made the Grimwald Nox seem easy in comparison.
  • The face that Doll makes upon getting her memories back as she falls to her knees, screaming.
  • Zola's plan to free Rosvita from the burden of Grimwald Nox ends up in success... in a way. With the intent of creating a being so powerful that it can completely replace the Monstrum, Zola's last Homunculus creation is born from Adol's memories as an adventurer, resulting in a mish-mash of various godlike beings Adol had faced... who almost immediately attempts to destroy Balduq because the city and its inhabitants are the source of the negative emotions that give birth to Lemures. Hawk, ever the cynic, sums it all up the best:
Feral Hawk: "All the wisdom in the world smashed together and nobody thought this would be the verdict? With the shit I've seen, I almost don't blame him."
    • When Zola realizes what went wrong, he moves to destroy the organism only for Atra to Flash Step out of containment and stab Zola in the back with its sword.
    • Arta's weakened form looks even worse (courtesy of Zola tampering with the energy holding Arta together from the inside when it's not looking) It transforms into a tower of winged angels clinging together like a human centipede, ending with Frankensteinian combination of several gods taken from Adol's experience in all its grotesque glory at the top.
