Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: Oni-ō no Fukkatsu
  • The first indication that something is not quite right is some of the people cryptically saying that '[you] cannot be saved'.
  • Touma getting possessed by the Onimaro. The possession clearly was painful and he mercilessly beat the bullies who just beat him back, transforming his arms into monsterous arms.
    • The Kigan Gear. The fact that it's claws dig into Touma's flesh and the weird sensation that it's very much alive.
  • Watching the normal denizens get transformed into hideous Oni. They didn't hold back, anyone affected by the Onimaro is turned into a hideous goblin, no matter if you are old man or just a young girl.
  • Natsume taking the mysterious third road and meeting Whisper. The empty ambiance and the whole atmosphere just tells you that something is not quite right. It doesn't help that Whisper is cryptically unsettling the first time Natsume meets him. It turns out that Whisper isn't that bad of a guy and will even serve as the comedic relief later, but still.
    • Followed up by Natsume summoning a hydra-like Yo-Kai as a first test. Turns out that he's not so scary or powerful after all, but for Natsume's first Yo-kai it definitely is terrifying.
  • Natsume coming home to see that her brother and her mother had turned into Oni. The terrified look on her face says it all.
    • Now mindless beasts, Natsume is forced to run from her demonized mother and brother and barely manages to escape. And the only way to stop them (for now)? Turn them to stone. Imagine how traumatizing this is to Natsume.
  • Jibanyan is no longer the cute and cuddly cat we know from the original series...He's able to transform into a large malicious cat who is incredibly powerful, able to cull metal trucks straight in half.
  • Touma starts to suffer from the Kigan Gear because as it turns out, deep down, he was a good person and thus was unable to maintain himself as leader of the Onimaro. The Kigan Gear starts to grip tighter on his arm, the darkness beginning to consume him. According to Kintaro, Touma wouldn't have lasted the day if Natsume hadn't gone in to dispel the darkness within him.
  • In the fight against the Oni King, Natsume is picked up and chucked by the giant demon into the lake. You can actually see blood spray out as she's knocked away, her hair becoming undone.
    • Ahkinori and Touma's reaction to watching Natsume 'die'. Both are horrified and Touma is even more so since this was all technically his fault.
  • Near the end of the battle, Touma ends up slicing the head off the Oni King. As if that isn't disturbing imagery enough, despite appearing that the battle is over, the Oni King shoots a blood shard directly into Touma's heart. The Oni King's head is prepared to shoot another shard at Natsume, but Touma, with all the rezolve he has left, stabs the Oni King right in the middle of the forehead, permanently ending him in an equally gruesome fashion.
    • Afterwards, Touma is laying limply on a piece of rubble, the shard that impaled him still lodged in his chest for all to see. While there is no blood to be seen, it is implied Touma likely bled to death. Thankfully he gets better.
  • In the manga, the Oni King takes the form of Touma's mother in attempt to dissuade him from attacking him. It didn't work, but Touma gets to have a nice visual of his mother trying to kill him.

Series

General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whatareyoulookingat.JPG
What are you looking at?
  • In general, this show is a lot more disturbing than it's predecessor or any other Yo-Kai Watch media. It's Darker and Edgier and not afraid to showcase some incredibly disturbing imagery. Episodes can jump from completely light-hearted to horrific and disturbing at the drop of a hat. You are guaranteed one piece of scary imagery every episode, usually courtesy of the focused Yo-Kai of that episode.

Episode 1: Phantom Gangleader

  • At the beginning of the episode, the Phantom Gangleader appears to mercilessly beat some kids (later revealed to be part of the neighborhood gang). According to some other online posts, other kids were also attacked in the same manner.
  • When Keisuke is caught by the members of the Street Gang, the leader is seen twirling a chain, threatening Keisuke that he should beg for forgiveness less that they tie him up and drown him in the river before starting to beat him senseless.
  • The Street Gangleader getting shot with a mysterious dart, that transforms him into a hideous Yokai hyrbid.

Episode 2: The Bicycle Ridden by the Dead

  • When the Yo-Kai bike finds that you are not the person it was looking for, it starts to shake rapidly back and forth before it strikes out at you.
  • Keisuke's encounter with the Yo-Kai bike. Just pure nightmare fuel.

Episode 4: A Wasteful Man

  • The whole concept of the Wasteful Man. He possesses children who don't finish their food, stealing their appetite which would then in turn, start to starve them. No matter how weak or starving the child gets, they will be unable to eat.
  • The start of the episode starts out simple enough, with a little girl eating some ramen with her mother. She is unable to finish her food due to being too full, when suddenly a long-haired man appears. No matter how much she cries for her mother, she is forced to sit in agonizing fear as the tall man finishes her unfinished ramen.
    • The worst part of this episode is that we never find out what happens to this little girl. According to the lore of the episode and what the Wasteful Man is doing, he should have possessed her and killed her appetite, which would prevented her from eating, which would then lead to her slowly starving to death. It is assumed that the Wasteful Man's possession would be reversed at the end of the episode, but how fast did the Detective Agency figure this whole spiel out? What if the girl starved to death? We'll never know.
  • Keisuke's possession by the Wasteful Man. It plays out just like how we saw at the beginning of the episode with the little girl, but a bit deeper this time. Starting from then, Keisuke has been unable to eat, despite being starving. Every time he tries to eat food, the Wasteful Man is standing there behind him, eventually pushing him to tears. He starts to look sickly and his face looks sullen. It's only been a few days, but he's definitely gotten thinner.
    • One scene stands out in particular: the scene where poor Keisuke tries to eat a cup of ramen, after resolving to eat something despite having no appetite, knowing that he will die if he didn't eat. Just as he's about to take a bite, the Wasteful Man appears, eating his ramen and scaring him out of his skin. Natsume comes home just in time to hear Keisuke's scream. When she kneels down beside him, Keisuke looks up to his sister, sickly and weak, begging her to save him.
  • The Wasteful Man appearing as a terrifying pot with arms sticking out the top and a myriad of human legs sticking out the bottom. Wonderful imagery.

Episode 9: It's Called the Man-eating Tuna

  • At the beginning of the episode, a family of three (a mother and her two children) are unceremoniously eaten by the Man-Eating Tuna. It turns out later that they are alright, but imagine how traumatizing it was for two young children.
  • The whole story of the college student running away from the Man-Eating Tuna. He does escape, but at a cost: he led them straight to a family of three to which they were eaten.

Episode 20: The Illusionary Screen 0

  • The whole first scene. Two friends are watching a movie, Takeru and his friend. They they notice that one of the actors on the screen has taken the form of the friend. In the movie, the actor is caught by the monsters and eaten alive, but in real life, the friend also seems to get eaten alive. The last moments of the friend is them begging Takeru not to leave them behind.
  • The fake Natsume and Keisuke are definitely freaky. Blank eyes and weird wide mouths, manipulating other people into coming into the theatre to get eaten.
  • In the fight agaisnt the Theatre Room Yo-Kai, it fires a projection ray that imposes the victim's greatest fear in the form of an illusion. While Jibanyan's greatest fear is water, Akinori's and Touma's are particularly horrifying.
    • Akinori seems to be afraid of heights or losing his balance. In the illusion, Akinori loses his balance and he falls onto the spikes, presumably to have died or at least in the process of dying.
    • Touma's greatest fear, as previously established, was his fear of being alone. His nightmare ends up seeing the dead bodies of all his friends and all the Yo-Kai they had befriended, with a voice taunting him that he was now alone.
  • In the context of the movie shown, the scene that was showed was gruesome and terrifying. It seems that a family was running away from some clam-like monsters. While they were hiding, the child of the family is grabbed by the monsters and is eaten alive on screen. The whole movie seems to be just Nightmare Fuel as not even fearsome Yo-Kai could stand watching it.
    • As cute as Ayame is, the fact that she was the only one able to stomach the whole movie without running out like the others is proof itself that she's probably more scarier than the movie, since at this point we still don't know what exactly she is.

Episode 22: Touma and the Piece of the Oni King

  • Touma collapsing. To his parents, their only son suddenly collapsed on the street. He hasn't gained consciousness and is unresponsive to your words. The doctors don't even know what's wrong with him, but nonetheless, he seems to be suffering. It's something that no sane parent would ever wish on their children.

Episode 30: Ayame's Fall

  • Just seeing Ayame (under the possession of Jorogumo) eat the soul of a skull was creepy.
  • Jorogumo coming out of Ayame was disturbing, and even worse, she basically tries to kill her.
