TOM...is dead.

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

  • The red blob creature that ate TOM 1. Unlike in later parts, the audience was completely helpless, and the thought of TOM dying was a slim one.
  • A trailer for the event shown on the UK Toonami made it worse. The trailer consisted of shots of TOM following the blob's progress and cuts back to SARA asking "Tom?" in a worried voice, then ended on the final shot of TOM 1's hand disappearing into the slime with this voiceover before the trailer flickered into static:
    Help us. Save us...
  • Episode 1: Seeing the actual blob at the end of the episode in the dark.
  • Episode 2: The Impending Doom P.O.V. when the blob makes its presence known to TOM, followed by his Oh, Crap! as the camera bum-rushes him in the blink of an eye. There's also some suspense before when the camera shows the Intruder's POV as it's stalking TOM and shoves him out of the Absolution.
  • Episode 3: Seeing one poor Clyde get eaten by the Intruder, leaving behind only a camera lens. Wow. Just... Wow.
  • Episode 4: The ultimate "shit just got real" episode as TOM 1 is eaten alive by the Intruder. There are a couple of nightmare-inducing feelings in this particular moment. For one, hearing TOM 1's agonizing, blood-curdling scream as he's eaten is pretty disturbing. Remember when TOM 5's arm was damaged by the same blob and he screamed in pain? This instance is more terrifying because TOM 1's entire body is being eaten away at. Second, when Sara calls out for TOM, the music for the episode stops and there's an eerie silence as his hand falls into the blob. Third, when TOM 1 desperately tries to evade death by forcing his hand up (as seen in the image above), his hand looks pock-marked and corroded like there are burn marks on his skin, and his body is submerged, leaving it up to the viewer's imagination as to what the Intruder's corrosive makeup is doing to TOM 1's body. Imagine if after this, TOM 1 managed to somehow escape the Intruder's corrosive makeup and returned to the bridge of the Absolution. TOM 1 would not look the same, as his entire body would probably be covered with cracks and burn marks, not to mention psychological scaring. The Intruder II more or less confirms this when you see TOM 1's eaten remains stuck to the Intruder, as his right hand, remaining torso, and visor have burn scars/marks, rust, charred skin and chipped paint (presumably his original white skin now being turned a grey color) on them. Think about that, TOM 1 was being burned alive when he was eaten.
  • Episode 5: Seeing the Intruder take over the Starboard engine in such a short amount of time.
  • Episode 8: A small piece of the Intruder flies by and leaves the message "The End?"
