The Cold Opening is horrifyingly graphic in its description, essentially allowing you to experience firsthand the raw terror felt by an adolescent girl waking up to the sight of her house burning down around her and slowly coming to the realization that she's about to be incinerated alive. The rest of the book is relatively tame in comparison, which just makes the opening stand out that much more. Needless to say, this one most likely made a lot of kids terrified of even dreaming about such a scenario, since as The Reveal goes on to demonstrate, how do you knowwhether or notit's actually a dream?
