You could almost hear the Cartoon Cartoons theme.
General:
- A black glitchy substance of unknown origin is slowly but surely overtaking the entire Warner Bros. multiverse. Characters beloved by millions are being overtaken by this goop and turned into mindless, grinning zombies with Blank White Eyes, occasional elongated jaws, and Ominous Visual Glitches surrounding them that attack or try to capture those who haven't been caught by the goop yet. Characters not known for looking scary such as Scooby-Doo and the gang, Fred Flintstone, and George Jetson suddenly look pants-soilingly terrifying.
Other:
- The April Fools 2022 Adult Swim broadcast is full of this:
- First, Pibby and BunBun are warped into the Rick and Morty episode "Total Rickall", where they are chased by the glitch blob just outside the Smith household while the episode plays out as normal, the family not noticing them.
- Later on, when Morty has a gun held to Rick's head, the action suddenly stops as Morty morphs into a glitched monster as his bones start cracking... and then the camera cuts back to Rick as though nothing happened and Morty is fine.
- Of particular note is the fact that even Rick, the smartest man in his universe, wiper of civilizations, probably one of the most dangerous entities in the Warner multiverse, and breaker of the fourth wall, is powerless before the Darkness while it creates glitches in his world. As meta as Rick is, he still has to go through the motions of reruns, and his mind is constrained by the events of the episode in question. The Darkness has no, or at least very little, such limitation.
- One bumper making fun of blockchains has BunBun suddenly appear to suggest "Maybe we should let the Darkness consume us." while looking right at the audience. In addition, even the bumper itself seems to beg for it to stop!
- The Eric Andre Show part reveals that not even live-action TV is safe. The Darkness suddenly attacks during the "Who killed Hannibal" scene, while Pibby and Bun-Bun watch, the former left horrified at what just happened.
- The Aqua Teen Hunger Force episode "Muscles" that plays later on goes like normal... until a scene where BunBun walks past the trio's house. What happens then? The moment Master Shake's Muscles come alive is given a horrifying edge, revealing realistic muscles and glitching out as they sprout right out of his body. Later on when his muscles pick a fight with the bar, the beaten patrons start glitching out as Pibby chases the wandering BunBun, who's passing it by as the chaos ensues.
- It's also shown that while Pibby and BunBun can see the Darkness, it is capable of insidiously corrupting universes with none of the inhabitants, including the aforementioned Rick, being aware that they're being glitched. In the original short, the characters from the targeted shows could at least see the Darkness and run or plan how to fight it, but this shows that the Darkness is fully capable of sneaking up on them, leaving them truly helpless.
- As mentioned earlier even the bumps were affected, right down to Adult Swim's sign off, which featured a theoretical 'end credits' song for Pibby. Said song itself isn't really creepy as it consists of Pibby singing 'goodbye' to the audience...but it becomes INCREDIBLY creepy when it plays over, NOT the psychedelic sign-off bump AS had been using, but the horrifying epileptic bump
