Nightmare Fuel / Dark Blood

• Very early on we see Lucia execute a minion for failing to catch Icarus, it is a visceral and graphically explicit moment where she uses her taloned fingers and unnatural strength to simply rip a huge chunk of flesh away from his neck.
  • a lot of the vampires seem to kill their prey this way, using their extended jaws to tear great chunks out of their flesh.
• The victims imprisoned in the People Jars that surround Edmond and Lucia's table in the Eiffel Tower restaurant have their eyes open implying they are awake and aware. To make things even more disturbing the last few panels of the scene imply that Lucia and Edmond have sex in front of one of the tanks.
• The reality of Icarus' existence is quite terrifying: he was punished by God for betraying Jesus and creates a new vampire every time he feeds and worst of all he does not remember any of it. This means that since Christ's death there have been who-knows-how-many blood-drinking, immortal monsters created who have gone on to be a blight upon the world because of him, and while he may not remember who they are, they ALL remember him.
