Nightmare Fuel / BrainDead (2016)

• Black comedy or not, the fact that the bugs actively eat people's brains and push them to one extreme or the other is terrifying. It's implied that this is the cause behind the crazy political scene that has been 2016.
• Within the first four episodes, there have been at least three "Catastrophic Head Injuries", as the FBI calls them. Heads outright explode, and while it's at least partially censored for TV, when Red's chief of staff dies on the talk show in episode 3, you can see his neck stump spew blood for about a second before the screen cuts away, and the director is barely able to kill the feed just in time.
• They've gotten subtler (slightly): When Abby is practically arrested to try to get her to be subjected to a CAT scan, the bugs force her to dive off of her balcony, head-first, destroying the evidence.
• We now know the symptoms of having your brain invaded- since they enter through the ears, they rupture the eardrum (leaving the poor person who they're in half-deaf) and mess up balance by tunneling through the cochlea. Anthony, the FBI agent who Laurel sleeps with at the end of Episode 4, wakes up showing these symptoms.
• After Laurel survives the bugs, she tries to help her friend Stacy be cured. Stacy is gone. The bugs are in control, and they've eaten enough of her brain that her head sounds hollow when it's knocked on. Oh, and there's this little tidbit:
  Laurel: What do you want?
  Stacy: Everything.
• Red's increasing habit of shooting people and apparently eating their brains, has become a source of genuine suspense by the series end.
• The climax where every single space bug came crawling out of their hosts head, and swarming into Red's office, by the millions. Granted, they just clumped together around their Queen and died.
