Who wants to sleep in the city that never wakes up? Blinded by nostalgia...

You leave the other stories standing
With your renditions and jokes
Bet there's hundreds of blokes
That have wept 'cause you've stolen their thunder
Are you putting us under
'Cause we can't take our eyes
Off the t-shirt and ties combination?
Well, see you later, innovator

  10. "The Bad Thing" (2:23)
  11. "Old Yellow Bricks" (3:07)
  12. "505" (4:13)

Favourite Worst Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: "But I crumble completely when you cry" in "505".
  • Album Title Drop: As shown in "D is for Dangerous".
I think you should know you're his favourite worst nightmare
  • Chick Magnet: Brian, the titular character from "Brianstorm", is described as a particularly successful ladies' man, although Alex compliments him as such in a rather sarcastic manner.
  • Fading into the Next Song: "This House Is a Circus" to "If You Were There, Beware" thanks to the guitar feedback transitioning both songs.
  • "L" Is for "Dyslexia": Subverted by the song "Brianstorm". No, it's not meant to be spelled "Brainstorm". It helps to look at the lyrics, which apparently serve as an ode aimed at a particularly memorable fan named Brian.
  • Miniscule Rocking: "Brianstorm"'s B-Side "If You Found This It's Probably Too Late" which clocks out at one minute and a half.
  • Mood Whiplash: The soft and melancholic "Only Ones Who Know" is followed by "Do Me A Favour", which builds up to an intense outro.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Discussed in "Old Yellow Bricks", as a justification for the character in the song for wanting to live in the big city.
Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up?
    Blinded by nostalgia
  • Shout-Out:
    • From "Teddy Picker", referencing Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer":
Don't concern us with your bollocks, I don't want your prayer
Save it for the morning after
    • "Old Yellow Bricks" references The Wizard of Oz and uses it as a metaphor for this song's topic of a young woman leaving her hometown to go to live in a big city. The song also mentions Houdini and it flips the lyrics of Frank Sinatra's song "New York, New York" with the line "Who wants to sleep in a city that never wakes up?".
  • Small Town Boredom: The reason for why the character of "Old Yellow Bricks" moves to the big city. Later in the song she regrets this decision.
  • Step Up to the Microphone: Drummer Matt Helders does a Vocal Tag Team in "D is for Dangerous" and sings the first post-chorus lines from "Teddy Picker":
She saw it and she grabbed it and it wasn't what it seemed
The kids all dream of making it, whatever that means
  • Surprisingly Gentle Song: "Only Ones Who Know" is notably more downbeat compared to the rest of the songs on this album.
  • Vapor Trail: Done in the Music Video for "Florescent Adolescent".

And even if somehow they could have
Shown you the place you wanted
Well, I'm sure you could have
Made it that bit better on your own
You are the only ones who know
