* ''VideoGame/Homeworld'': In the mission where you face the hijacked "ghost" ships, it is quite easy to capture them with salvage corvettes. Do it when you are already at your population cap, since you will simply surpass it, while getting a large force of new vessels basically for free to subsequently use in the next levels. The enemy forces will only scale up to your max population, not accounting for you being over the limit.

** In the [[VideoGame/BaldursGate first installment]], you have the Pirate's cave. Every time you rest in the cave, you'll be attacked by Flesh Golems.
** Right after starting the game, one can run away from Imoen and head straight to the area east of the Temple. There are a lot of basilisks here; normally bad news as they can petrify you for an immediate game over. However, there is also a ghoul named Korax who will immediately be put under a Dire Charm as soon as you talk to him. Ghouls are innately immune to petrification, so you can exploit this to lead him around the map, killing basilisks and greater basilisks (and their 'owner' Mutamin) for a couple thousand experience a pop and gain four or five levels before you even begin the game proper. This works even better in the Enhanced Edition as freshly recruited allies will begin with enough experience to match your protagonist's level (up to a max of level five). Korax will eventually snap out of it and attack you as well, though, so don't linger too long!

** Resting in dungeons until random enemies spawn can be tedious, but is an effective way to farm xp. There are however some instances were this strategy is more efficient and you can earn more xp in a reasonable short time. In the [[VideoGame/BaldursGate first installment]], you have the Pirate's cave. cave near the coast. Every time you rest in the cave, here, you'll be attacked by Flesh Golems.
Golems, that net 2000 xp each. They can hit hard, but are also more fragile than their looks. Similarly, in the Cloakwood Forest there is another cave that always spawns Wyverns when you rest inside. They net 1400 xp each, and you might get lucky and have them spawn so that they can't reach you, while you can sling missiles. In the second level of Durlag's Tower instead you can meet every time a Great Doppleganger worth 4000 xp.

*** With more practice, if you charm one basilisk, and you have Stone to Flesh Scrolls, you can petrify other basilisks, unpetrify them, repeat, and each time you will get the full amount of xp. Works wonders with greater basilisks, which are worthy 9000 xp.
** Ankhegs that randomly spawn north of the Friendly Arm Inn are another case of fan favorite farming. While their ranged attack can be lethal, you can use the Sleep spell to pacify them. You will also get their shell, which can be sold for 500 gold pieces, multiplied for how long you want to hunt those pesky bugs.
** In ''VideoGame/BaldursGateII'', writing high level spells in your mage book rewards with thousands of xp, and you can erase the spell to scribe it again - the only limit being money to buy scrolls and success chances based on your character's intelligence, but it is quite easy to max out thieving skills to steal the former from vendors, and the latter can be easily incremented with a cheap potion of genius. A common strategy when dual classing humans into mages is to temporarily kick out party members, scribe as many scrolls as needed, and quickly restore the gap in levels to avoid the handicap of the original class deactivated for long. Enjoy your kensai/mage right from the beginning as soon as you reach merchants.
** In the mind flayer lair in the Underdark there is a room that will continuously spawn one every minute, worthy 9000 xp each time. Quite a pinata, if you can stand its attacks. If you have a character that is immune to its psionic powers (requiring save vs spell equal to 0), and who can equip ranged weapons with infinite ammo and good hit chances, that becomes basically free xp without an effort.

It's hard to kill any of them before they all run away, but if you manage even one, you'll get enough XP to level up all your party multiple times. Furthermore, even if they do all run and you get zero XP, you can still get high-level item drops. (You can also boost your chances by customising your party setup, eg having a fast character take the Lumberjack class line, while everyone else takes Mage Hunter, start combat with the Sagacity skill to boost everyone's critical hit rate, then use Melting Shot for guaranteed multiple hits.)
