* In ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'', [[spoiler:Nana Shimura]] gave up their son to a foster family to protect him from [[spoiler:All-For-One]] after the death of their husband. [[spoiler:This ends up {{Deconstructed|Trope}} as her son Kotaro becomes resentful that his mother seemingly abandoned him, with resentments aimed at heroes in general. [[AbusiveParent Kotaro would later take it out on his son Tomura for liking heroes]], leading Tomura's Decay quirk to kill his family and end up in the hands of All-For-One]].

* In ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra'' Korra grows resentful of the fact she was shut away in a compound for most of her life thanks to her parents and Tenzin. She lets it go however after the pressure of being the Avatar gets to her and her parents reveal their reasoning: [[spoiler:after Tonraq's banishment, they only ever wanted to have a family and live a normal life, but that plan got nixed after it was revealed she was the next Avatar. The compound was an attempt to give her as normal a life as her role would allow her. Ironically enough, all Korra has ever wanted to be is the Avatar and be as not normal as possible.]]

* The GrandFinale of ''WesternAnimation/{{Hilda}}'' reveals that [[spoiler:Hilda’s maternal grandparents left their daughter Johanna at age of ten, because the Fairy Entity demanded the girl’s custody in exchange for curing her, but they ultimately went in her place instead so she could have a normal life. Johanna’s aunt Astrid even erased most of her childhood memories so she won’t feel abandoned]].

* ComicBook/WonderGirl Cassie Sandsmark was born the demi-god daughter of Zeus and her mortal mother Helena but had her inherent powers sealed as an infant in an attempt to give her a normal life. This obviously didn't work out long term, and when she finally learned her father's identity and had her powers unsealed years after first becoming a superhero she was incredibly upset at being lied to for her whole life.

* In ''Series/{{Castle}}'', this turns out to be the reason for Castle's dad being a complete unknown. [[spoiler:He was a CIA operative who had a one-night stand with Castle's mom, and then didn't want to endanger them with his enemies.]]

* ''Manga/CityHunter'': In a story Ryo has to protect a weaponsmith wants to quit her job to give her daughter a normal life rather growing up surrounded by guns, the smell of gunpowder and shady people.

** In ''[[ComicBook/RobinSeries Robin]]'', [[spoiler: Spoiler]] gave up her baby at birth because of her own heroic activities and her father's villainous ones; she refuses even to let [[spoiler: Robin]] tell her whether the baby was a boy or a girl.

* This is what happened to Jessie from ''Anime/PokemonTheSeries'' according to ''Radio/PokemonTheBirthOfMewtwo''. Her mother Miyamoto loved her. However she was a member of Team Rocket, so Miyamoto put her daughter in a foster home to live a life away from crime. She tried to capture Mew to make a profit to take care of Jessie however she became lost in a blizzard. It ends up being [[AllForNothing a moot point]] because Jessie ends becoming a member of Team Rocket when she grew up.

* This is what happened to Jessie from ''Anime/{{Pokemon}}'' according to ''Radio/PokemonTheBirthOfMewtwo''. Her mother Miyamoto loved her however she was a member of Team Rocket, so Miyamoto put her daughter in a foster home. Your hero has just become a mommy or a daddy -- wow! Either they weren't planning on it, and they managed to admirably rise to the challenge of parenthood, or this is something they've always wanted, and having a baby is making many of their dreams come true. (Sometimes, it can be a mixture of both)

** OTOH, in the manga Professer Tomoe is killed by Sailor Moon and they raise her through the end of the 3rd arc until the end of the 4th, as a more or less normal girl. She gets her powers back at this point.

* ''Fanfic/OneDayAtATimeFanfic'':

* In the ''Series/{{Masterpiece}} MiniSeries "The Long Song", a slave who has just given birth attempts to run away. Unfortunately, with her owners catching up with her, she abandons her newborn son on the steps of a local church, not wanting him to be brought up in that cruel environment and hoping that he can live out this trope. Decades letter, her son, now a prominent lawyer, tracks down his now elderly mother and takes her home with him to give her the pampered life she'd always deserved.

* ''ComicBook/ThePunisherMAX'': Frank discovers that his brief relationship with Kathryn O'Brien resulted in the birth of an illegitimate daughter (Sarah) who she left with her sister before she died on their final mission together. After saving her from Barracuda, who kidnapped her with the intent of brutally killing her to get the worst possible revenge against him, Frank briefly considers taking her with him and settling down somewhere... only to accept that he's too far gone to ever be able to be a father again. Instead, he returns his daughter to her adoptive family, and walks away, never seeing her again. [[spoiler: Not long after, he dies from the injuries he gained while killing Bullseye and The Kingpin]]

* In ''ComicBook/UsagiYojimbo'', [[spoiler: Usagi gives the son of a lord and his favorite courtesan to Inspector Ishida to raise after the former becomes gravely ill and the latter is killed by an ambitious courtier trying to get at the kid, whom the lord acknowleddged as his legit heir. Maple, the courtesan, couldn't even see her own child and just wanted to be normal, and out of respect Usagi doesn't tell Ishida anything about the boy except that he comes from a good samurai family.]]
** This is also kind of the reason Usagi [[spoiler: doesn't tell Jotaro he's his father, since he doesn't want to disturb Jotaro's relationship with his father, who's also TheRival of Usagi.]]

* ''Fanfic/TheSecondTry'': [[spoiler:Shinji and Asuka]] often express this desire about [[spoiler:their daughter Aki.]] In fact it is hinted that their wish for Aki having friends and a normal life was the cause of their trip back to the past. And in the epilogue and the sequel ''Webcomic/AkiChansLife'' they often say they want that their daughter have a normal life , and do not even want her finding out [[spoiler:that they are time-travelers]].
* Downplayed in ''Fanfic/AmazingFantasy'', Peter keeps his daughter Mayday away from his apartment, leaving her with his ex-wife Mary-Jane. He hopes that Mayday won't learn of his superhero activities and won't worry about him over them, or worse still, get involved in them.
* ''Fanfic/WarriorsRewrite'': Sometimes loners who can't take care of their kits will abandon them by Clans so that the Clan will adopt them. Swiftkit and Ravenpaw were both abandoned by their mothers and adopted into [=ThunderClan=].

As a result of a baby-switching error (read: a very subtle act of DivineIntervention), he instead gets raised in the English countryside wanting nothing more than to be a normal kid with a normal life.
* ''Literature/TheDevourers'': {{Inverted|Trope}} by a human woman who gives her half-[[OurWerebeastsAreDifferent werebeast]] son up to be raised as a FullyEmbracedFiend by rakshasas rather than burden him with HalfBreedAngst.

* In the epilogue true ending of ''VisualNovel/TheDevilOnGString'', [[spoiler: knowing Haru might get imprisoned for attempted murder of 'Maou' through illegal possession of a firearm, Kyousuke intentionally twisted his story during his confession to the police to ensure his lover Haru will not be branded a criminal so that her violinist career won't be ruined]]. Kyousuke also behaved like a jerk towards Tsubaki, Kanon & Mizuha during [[spoiler: their prison visits in order not to soil their reputation for associating with a murderer.]] When Kyousuke is finally [[spoiler:released from prison]], his reunion with Haru is the missing piece that will provide their daughter the normal life that they both lack.
* [[spoiler: Tsugumi]] tried to do this with [[spoiler: Hokuto and Sara]] in ''VisualNovel/Ever17'' to prevent them from being captured by Leiblich. Oddly enough, while this failed, they did actually get ''somewhat'' normal lives out of it. Emphasis on [[TheydCutYouUp somewhat.]]

* In ''Series/AllMyChildren'', a fourteen-year-old Erica Kane is raped and ends up pregnant. Since she can't get an abortion, Erica and her mom give the baby, Kendall, to the Hart family so that the child can live with suitable parents and not have to deal with being a ChildByRape.

* ''Literature/{{Ferals}}'': Lydia's mother Velma concealed her feral abilities from her daughter so that she could live the normal childhood that Velma was denied in her youth.

* ''Fanfic/ChildOfTheStorm'' has Wanda give this as the reason she gave up [[spoiler Hermione]] to her adoptive parents, and with Lily's help, went to great trouble to cover her tracks, only leaving emergency contact details - she has a lot of baggage, personal and inherited, and her child would inherit yet more (especially since the father was ComicBook/JohnConstantine). Also, there was the small matter of [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies her many, many enemies]].

* Happens in ''WesternAnimation/{{Futurama}}''. For a few seasons, Leela, who grew up in an orphanage with no knowledge of her origins, always believed herself to be an alien. It turns out that her parents [[spoiler: are really mutants. On the Futurama Earth, mutants are forced to live in the sewers. When Leela was born, her parents realized that she was the least mutated mutant ever born. They left her on the doorstep of an orphanage with a note written in an alien-language, with the reasoning that she could have a normal life if her origins were unknown]].
