* In the second issue of the ''ComicBook/{{Madballs}}'' comic book published by Creator/MarvelComics subsidiary Star Comics, the Madballs went back in time and fought a pirate named Captain Weirdbeard.
* The pirate captain featured in the 13th issue of ''[[ComicBook/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicIDW My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic]]'' is eventually revealed to be named Hoofbeard.
