Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree is a Railway Series related book that was written by Christopher Awdry and illustrated by Clive Spong. It was published in October 20th, 1986, the same year the TV adaptation was aired. It was later rereleased with My First Thomas-style illustrations.

This book contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Dye-Job: In the original publication, Donald and Douglas are painted black like their TV series counterparts, but in the My First Thomas edition, they are blue.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Thomas had a setback with the snow, but is rescued by Donald and Douglas and gets the Christmas tree on time and celebrates the carol party with the other engines.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Gordon and Henry complain about how Thomas is chosen to collect the Christmas Tree instead of them.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Thomas is stuck in a snow drift while attempting to deliver the Christmas Tree. He is eventually saved by Donald and Douglas.
  • Luminescent Blush: After James wheeshes steam, the Fat Controller tells the engines not to wheesh steam during the party. James then blushes with embarrassment.
  • Worth It: In the end of the book, Thomas mentions to Percy that it was worth it for the party despite being stuck under the snowdrift.
