Tropes:
- Companion Cube: "Inheritance" has Callum use a tornado spell to clean Viren's now abandonded private room, talking to it and referring to it as Angus, despite acknowledging it as not alive.
- Darker and Edgier: While the original series is not without its dark moments, the reflection stories contain things that would likely have not passed without changing the age rating of the show, such as several deaths, a character being slowly turned into a mindless monster, a guy getting beaten to a pulp, the psychological issues of several of the main characters, including PTSD, and the complete lack of humor that the show sometimes uses to distract from its darkest scenes.
- Due to the Dead: "The Queen's Soul" has siblings Karim and Janai honor the memories of their sister and queen Khessa.
- The Dreaded: Kim'dael from "The Queen's Mercy" inspires fear as she walks the streets of Lux Aurea and Queen Aditi claims that "Your name is whispered legend, as are your crimes", also noting that the Dragons "feared you once".
- Hypocrite: Kim'dael begs Queen Aditi to protect her, while planning to betray her. She then accuses Aditi of lying when Aditi forces Kim'dael to wear a collar which Kim'dael thinks is killing her.
- Narrator All Along: "Patience" has an unknown narrator describe how human begged the stars for wisdom only to learn patience. They then describe learning patience themselves, being locked up for centuries, and the illustration confirms that the narrator is Aravos.
- I Surrender, Suckers: Kim'dael begs Queen Aditi to shelter her from the dragons, only to inwardly plan to betray her. She is only prevented from doing this by Queen Aditi placing a collar on her to ensure Kim'dael's loyalty.
