Lady of the Winds was the 6th and final book in the Heart Quest series, spun off from the Endless Quest series.

Young Ivee runs away from home to keep her stepfather from selling her beloved horse. While figuring out how to make her way in the world, she becomes an apprentice to Phrytz, one of the last practicing wizards in the land. It seems some evildoer's been hunting them down one by one to keep their magic from threatening his power...

Lady of the Winds provides examples of:

  • All Girls Like Ponies: Ivee's defining characteristic is her love of horses and equestrianism.
  • Pegasus: Ivee's horse is turned into one in the good ending.
  • Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor: The book presents two love interests, one of whom is the prince of a desert kingdom, the other of whom's a salt-of-the-earth fellow wizard's apprentice.
  • Secret Test of Character: Phrytz lets Ivee know he has a secret criteria for when his apprentices are ready to move up. It's when they have the courage to cast spells without him around to make sure nothing goes wrong.
  • Sorcerers Apprentice: Ivee becomes one early in the book, alongside a potential Love Interest.
  • Title Drop: The meaning's revealed in the Golden Ending, where Ivee's taken control of her life, and is as free as the winds.
