"I can't imagine what overseas people think of us."

I Hate Fridays is a comedy/slice-of-life series by Rachel Flynn. It's written in the format of journal entries from various children- specifically, students in the backwater Australian town of Koala Hills- as they grow up.

  1. I Hate Fridays (grade 4, elementary school)
  2. It's Not Fair! (grade 5)
  3. I Can't Wait (grade 6)
  4. Worried Sick (grade 7, high school)
  5. Messing Around (grade 8)

This series includes the following tropes:

  • First-Person Smartass: Everyone has something to say about their peers, teachers, or family. Most of the comedy of the series comes from its narrators snarking about each other.
  • It's for a Book: Thadeus's father really is watching Baywatch to help him write a romance novel, but he clearly has other motives as well.
  • Lovable Alpha Bitch: Kirsty is not a bully, but she clearly thinks she's better than everyone else in Koala Hills, and tends to be Innocently Insensitive in her pursuit of fame and luxuries. Most of the other students avoid her.
