Cat on the Run is a series of graphic novel chapter books for children by Australian author and illustrator Aaron Blabey, creator of The Bad Guys.

Set in the same universe as The Bad Guys, Cat on the Run tells the story of Princess Beautiful, internet celebrity cat. The most popular celebrity online, she’s a diva pretending to be a goofy kitten to rack up billions of internet views and followers. However, one video goes awry when a mysterious organization hacks into her program, causing her to become framed for a crime she didn't commit.

Now, with police hot on her trail, Princess Beautiful is a fugitive of the law. With everyone focused on her as enemy number one, she has to make a break for it, which is not that easy when you’re also celebrity number one.

Books in the series include:

  1. Cat on the Run in Cat of Death! (2023)
  2. Cat on the Run in Cucumber Madness! (2024)

The Cat on the Run series provides examples of:

  • Cats Are Snarkers: Princess Beautiful's actual personality is that of a sarcastic diva, belittling her crew and demanding changes at a moment's notice.
  • Convicted by Public Opinion: Because "the internet never lies", everyone automatically decides that Princess Beautiful is guilty. Catrick Cash is one of the only ones to believe she is not guilty.
  • Frame-Up: The major plot kickstarter. Thanks to manipulating her latest video, the mysterious organization makes it look like Princess Beautiful is planning world domination, with proof of it on the internet for all to see.
  • The Internet Is for Cats: Princess Beautiful is an ultra-popular trending internet celebrity. As a cat, she's a parody of "cute cat videos", with her playing a doofy kitten for billions of views.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Part of Princess Beautiful's celebrity persona is her playing a googly-eyed kitten in tacky outfits getting into wacky hijinks. In reality, she’s a slender fashionable cat with a bratty and sarcastic behavior.
  • Spin-Off: Of The Bad Guys books. Set in the same universe, characters such as Tiffany Fluffit and Chuck Melon of Channel 6 Action News are recurring characters in the series, while The Bad Guys themselves have small picture cameos.
  • Splash of Color: In contrast to The Bad Guys, Cat on the Run is not only in black and white. Various items, such as signage, accessories, and chapter numbers and titles, are colored in bright red. More noticeably, the reoccurring scorpion motif is in red as well.
