Tropes in this episode:
- Easy Evangelism: Subverted Trope. Villanelle is staying with a vicar and his daughter, and is about to get baptized. She's not a true believer—but she's trying to change her ways, and religion provides a template for doing so.Phil: Do you believe in God?Villanelle: I believe that people who believe in God are good people for me to be around.Phil: Nelle, I can't baptise someone who doesn't have faith.Villanelle: I have faith. But... I have faith that I'm not as shitty inside as some people think I am. And that I can prove them wrong.
- Heel–Faith Turn: Villanelle tries to invoke this. She's baptized into a church and becomes a Christian formally (although she isn't clearly a believer) but it's a bumpy ride. After a young woman in the church hits on her, Villanelle nearly kills her by dunking her head in the baptismal font, but then recuscitates her.
