Specter of the Past

  • The demonstration on Cesjansij in Specter of the Past. A major theme of the books is various individuals and groups at each other's throats over their very different ideas of what would constitute "justice" for Caamas (or using that as an excuse to settle old scores). And in the midst of all this strife, you have a group of people with very different viewpoints coming together for a peaceful demonstration of mourning and their mutual commitment to justice, even if they disagree about what that should be. They might as well be saying: "Though we disagree, ultimately, we are together."
    • Even more heartwarming is that this is exactly what the Caamasi themselves would want.
  • Shada's Batman Gambit to infiltrate the Organas' suite in the Ororo Tower on Coruscant: she pretends to be a drunk, jilted lover preparing to jump off the tower. Leia's Noghri bodyguards know she's there from the moment she appears on the balcony, but when she starts to climb over the rail, one of them rushes out of cover and grabs her, telling her not to do it.

Vision of the Future

  • A little awesome, a little tearjerker, and a lot of heartwarming: Ghent volunteers to infiltrate an Imperial base and find the Caamas Document, risk be damned, since he's the best slicer (hacker) in the galaxy. Asked why, he relates how sickened and angry he was to hear about Caamas's destruction, and how part of him would happily let the entire Bothan species burn for a few individuals' role in making it happen. Then Elegos pulled him back and counseled him to use his talents and his passion for the greatest good and prevent violence whenever possible. He figures that if he's not part of the solution, then he's part of the problem, and that's why he has to go. Leia says she understands completely.
  • The trigger phrase Mara agreed on to be awoken from the healing trance Luke places her in to facilitate their escape from the Chiss fortress: "I love you, Mara." It becomes a standard trance wake-up phrase for them in future books.
  • How Mara Jade gets Luke to say "I love you": when he puts her in a Jedi trance, she tells him to wake her with that phrase, while wondering if he could actually do it. This is in Vision of the Future, and comes right after a now or never moment.
    Luke: Mara...will you marry me?
Mara: You mean if we get out of here alive?
    Luke: I mean regardless.
    Mara: ...Yes. I will.
