Heartwarming / The Cooler

• Natalie leaves Bernie a note (with a kiss for good luck) telling him to have a spectacular day. For the first time, we see him happy. He even finally gets cream for his coffee.
• On learning that his only friend paid his girlfriend to seduce him, Bernie's response is to take her to the hospital, then give her a hug and a kiss once she's all stitched up.
  Bernie: Hey, you look in the mirror, you don't like what you see? Don't you believe it. Look in my eyes. I am the only mirror you're ever gonna need. You look into my eyes, Natalie.
• Shelly has looked like a stereotypical gangster for the whole movie... but he goes all in to defend his Childhood Friend.
