Heartwarming / Superman Smashes the Klan

Go To

  • The mere fact that Superman and his supporting cast do not receive any racial Adaptational Jerkass or Adaptational Villainy and are totally accepting of non-Caucasians.
  • In book 2, Superman allows Roberta to keep his cape as a gift, an act of kindness that persuades Roberta to stay in Metropolis even after her family was attacked by the Klan.
Roberta: Is everything we've gone through in Metropolis worth it for this one moment? I think I'm gonna have to say yes.
    • Superman's interactions with Roberta in general are incredibly sweet and endearing. In book 1, Clark is the first adult to try and make Roberta feel better after her house was almost burned down. And after Clark notices that Roberta has motion sickness, he tries to soften his landings when carrying her so that she doesn't throw up.
  • Believing that Clark was staring at a woman across the cafe, Lois leaves in a jealous huff. Clark desperately tries to deny this and, under his breath, admits how much he adores Lois:
Clark Kent: Who wants to talk to a pretty woman across the shop when the prettiest, smartest, and most fearless woman I've ever met is across the table?
  • In the final book, Superman realizes that he needs to come to terms with his alien heritage. He goes to his parents for advice.
Superman: I... I need to know that no matter what happens, no matter what I find out, nothing changes between us. Promise me we'll always be a family.
    Jonathan: Oh, son...
Martha: We made that promise the moment we laid eyes on you.
  • The ending of the limited series. After Roberta has faced down her doubts about her personal identity and talents while helping Superman resolve his own, she decides to give back the pen Lois Lane gave with the "L.L." It's at that point Lois notes that the L's in the pen's case are not standing for herself, but for Roberta's birth name: Lan-Shin Lee. Leave it to a reporter of Lois Lane's talent, heart and integrity to find the truth and have it serve a worthy cause. In the final imagery, Lan-Shin Lee is in the field with her mentors, Lane and Jimmy Olsen, pursuing the truth in Metropolis wherever the forces of evil try to hide it with Superman, having come to peace with his own identity, flying overhead to help his friends and fellow heroes in the Neverending Battle for Truth and Justice.
