  • Volume 2, Golden Blooming, is probably the most optimistic and hopeful chapter in the series so far.
    • Mioko's reason for staying around. Unlike the other ghosts who are chained by their regrets and obsessions, Mioko is a ghost because she wants to watch over her sister Kimiko. When she sees that Kimiko has found someone who will take care of her and the chance to live freely at last, she passes on with a smile.
    • Hata telling Kimiko that she shouldn't be ashamed of not wanting to return to being a geisha because of a traumatic experience of being attacked by a drunken guest, and that it is those who hurt her who should be ashamed. Suzuko notes that his words are moving because he genuinely believes them, not just because he was comforting Kimiko.
    • Hata recommending Kimiko to a job of dormitory dean of a girls' school. He adds that since it's a girls' school, there are no men and no drunks, so there is nothing for her to be afraid of.
    • Even though he has the chance to propose to Kimiko, Hata refuses to take it because it would be taking advantage of her weakness.
  • In Volume 3, we meet Takafuyu's extended family on Awaji Island. Even though his great-uncle obviously despises him, his cousins Mikio and Fukiko treat him warmly, showing that Takafuyu wasn't wholly isolated within the Hanabishi family.
