Heartwarming / Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Grove Street 4 Life

Go To

  • When CJ is going to Liberty City to do a job for Salvatore Leone, which will undoubtedly lead to the deaths of Rosenberg, Kent Paul and Maccer, he asks for them to come as back up, which Leone "graciously" allows. CJ gives them an order to get somewhere safe so no one can suspect anything, but Maccer actually asked about being his back up, which honestly touched CJ, seeing he was actually worried for him.
  • Remember the janitor mentioned in the original? During the heist, CJ hands a briefcase to the janitor (named Tito here) and tells him that it's his bonus, to be opened after the heist is successful, which it is. Cue Tito whooping with joy at the end of the chapter as he opens the briefcase to find his bonus: two million dollars. Not to mention the next chapter reveals that CJ and Woozie gave him a cut of the take on top of that.
  • Even CJ punching Zero out for inadvertently telling Berkley about the heist becomes this since the narration states that CJ pulled his punch at the last second owing to all the actual help Zero had been over the past few months. While things are still pretty frosty between them, the money they just stole from Caligula's will go a long way towards it. At the end of the story, CJ is even considering giving him a chance again.
  • On the chapter explaining the mission "High Noon", after CJ killed Pulaski, he decides to head back to Las Brujas to give Hernandez a proper burial at the cemetery inside Las Brujas as a thank you message for taking the bullet from Pulaski during the grave digging part.
CJ: "It wasn't much, but I buried Hernandez there in Las Brujas, stripping his uniform and ID but leaving his badge in there with him. I said a few mumbled words over the grave, wishing I'd known him better, known him well enough to say something nice. "You saved my life," I said, to finish, "Twice. Yo words to Cesar, and just now when you attacked Pulaski. I'm sorry I couldn't save you, man..... thank you."
  • Carl finally catching up with Sweet while driving to Madd Dogg's mansion, then getting him to meet Cesar face-to-face. Despite Kendl's worries, Sweet puts aside his grudges and finally accepts Cesar for protecting his sister.
    • Sweet also gets to meet Madd Dogg, who explains he originally moved to Vinewood to get full-time care for his sick mother.
  • Near the end of the game, when CJ needs some extra hands in "Los Desperados":
CJ: "There were a bunch of homies hanging around outside on Grove Street, watching the distant smoke clouds in parts of the city we hadn't reached yet that were still suffering rioting. I wondered how many of them would be eager to leave the relatively safe Grove Street to drive into old Azteca territory and take on geared up Vagos. In the end, I had to turn people away because they wouldn't all fit in the car.
    • Also counts as a mild funny.
  • The narrative really plays up Tenpenny and Sweet's grudge against each other, to the point where CJ is actually worried that Sweet will die trying to get to Tenpenny. Thus, the narrative for the final chase scene turns into CJ begging his brother to let go for his brother, even when Toreno once told him that Sweet will never put his life over his grudge. And as players will know, he does.
  • In the epilogue — CJ gets a final call from Toreno, who genuinely wishes him well on the rest of his life.
  • Throughout the story, CJ struggles with trying to distant himself from his old gang, believing it's not who he is. By the end of the LP, though, he fully embraces his identity as a Grove Street boy and is perfectly content with his life as who he is and where he's living. His last line really says it:
    CJ: "Grove Street? 4 Life."
  • In general, CJ's relationship with his companions is just one big heartwarming moment. Even though the story starts with Ryder and Big Smoke betraying CJ and the hood, by the end of it, he has a large group of true friends from all over the state who are happy to help him and Grove Street get back on it's feet. In particular is his partnership with Cesar and Woozie, which is expanded on in this Lets Play to be more present throughout the story.
