• It’s apparent from the start that Akeem and Lisa are very much happy and in love, even after thirty years.
• Everything about Lavelle’s familial bonds with his mother Mary and Uncle Reem. The trio are the best of friends and despite their immaturity, Mary and Uncle Reem take their roles in Lavelle’s life very seriously, supporting him through thick and thin.
• Akeem almost immediately embraces Lavelle as his son after meeting him, regardless of his streetwise nature.
• Upon seeing Lavelle in trouble during his attempt to get whiskers from a lion, Akeem's first thought is to immediately try and rush to the rescue. Coming of age tradition or not, he's not going to let his son get hurt or killed.
• After Akeem upsets both Lavelle and Lisa, Cleo gives him a much needed pep talk encouraging him to make things right with his family. In the process, he asks Akeem what would his mother - the Queen say if she were alive. Akeem thinks back to when she urged him to make up with Lisa.
• Akeem reassuring Semmi that he is capable of protecting the kingdom from General Izzi, because he is a “son of Zamunda”. This proves that while Semmi may be a pain in the ass, Akeem believes in his friend no matter what.
