Previews

  • The end of the trailer, with "We are the Champions" playing over the tagline "Fearless lives forever" and scenes of Freddie in his eternal prime, followed by:
    Roger: You're a legend, Freddie.
    Freddie: We're all legends.
  • A shot featured in both trailers had all four of them in a Group Hug.
  • On September 5th, a video from 20th Century Fox's YouTube channel was released to celebrate the late Freddie Mercury's birthday, complete with a small clip of the man himself nearing the end.
  • The release of the final trailer saw the use of "Under Pressure", with use of David Bowie's contribution to the song can be sure to leave a warm feeling nearly three years after his death.

"Jim's my friend."
  • Freddie talking to Mary about the Brazil concert and how the audience broke out singing "Love Of My Life", the song he wrote for her.
  • Mary finding Freddie in Munich and pleading for him to come back home. Even though both Freddie and Mary are no longer together, Mary still cares about the man who still calls her "the love of my life".
    Freddie: It's just... I'm frightened...
Mary: Freddie, you don't need to be, because no matter what, you are loved. By me, by Brian, Roger, Deacy, your family. It's enough. And these people... They don't care about you. Paul doesn't care about you. You don't belong here, Freddie. Come home.
  • Freddie telling his family about the band's participation in the Live Aid concert to benefit the famine in Ethiopia. Realizing that his son has taken his lesson of "good thoughts, good words, good deeds" to the heart and is using his music career to pursue it, Freddie's father embraces him.
  • After Freddie learns he has AIDS, he walks out past another patient who already has a large lesion on his forehead. The young man recognizes him through the sunglasses and baseball cap and calls out the classic "Ay-o!", to which Freddie quietly responds.
  • The end credits finish with "The Show Must Go On."
  • Freddie lays into his bandmates about how much of a Jerkass he's been to them and he offers to flagellate himself for all the wrong he's done.
Freddie: I've been hideous, I know that, and... I deserve your fury. I've been conceited, selfish... Well, an asshole, basically.
    Roger: Strong beginning.
Freddie: Look, I'm happy to strip off my shirt and flagellate myself before you.
  • When Freddie asks the band members, "What'll it take for you to forgive me?" Deacon responds immediately with "I forgive you."
    • It's implied that Brian and Roger are ready to forgive him too. They just wanted to make sure Freddie was being sincere and willing to change his behavior first.
  • Freddie recounts his time over in Munich as unpleasant since the people he hired did everything he wanted, whereas with Brian, Roger, and John, they all had input in some form or another.
Freddie: I went to Munich. I hired a bunch of guys, I told them exactly what to do and the problem was: They did it. No push-back from Roger, none of [Brian's] re-writes, none of [John's] funny looks. I need you, and you need me.
  • Hell, even small moments of the band interacting can be incredibly sweet. They really are a family.
Freddie: (on Brian's guitar playing) Give it a bit more rock and roll.
Brian: (smiling) You know I'm always up for that, Fred.
  • The scene where Freddie tells the band that he has AIDS is heartbreaking. He orders them not to cry or pity him because there's no time for that; Freddie says he wants to be no one's poster boy for AIDS or a cautionary tale, just Freddie Fucking Mercury. The band proceeds to give him a Group Hug, that Freddie returns while snarking they're crying like little girls.
  • Freddie telling his family he and Jim are going to Wembley Stadium because "Jim's never been to a rock concert before." And when his dad asks how Freddie and Jim know each other, Jim starts scrambling for a lie, but Freddie just takes his hand, and quietly says "Jim's my friend," about as close to a true coming-out as could be managed at the time.
    • While his parents were taken aback at first, Freddie's sister is nothing but happy for him.
    • Freddie's mother, clearly reading between the right lines, smiles beautifully and says "It's good to have friends."
  • Brian's reaction when Freddie tells him about the operatic section of the title track. Freddie is about to downplay the whole idea, but Brian immediately tells him he loves it, and they both agree they've got nothing to lose in recording this vocal epic.
  • Freddie and Brian selling the group to John Reid.
John Reid: So, tell me. What makes Queen any different from all of the other wannabe rockstars I meet?
Freddie Mercury: I'll tell you what it is. We're four misfits who don't belong together, playing for the other misfits. The outcasts, right at the back of the room who are pretty sure they don't belong either. We belong to them.
    Brian May: We're a family.
Roger Taylor: But no two of us are the same.
  • Even though Foster wants to release "I'm in Love with My Car" as A Night at the Opera's lead single, Roger (who wrote it) knows "Bohemian Rhapsody" is the better song and argues in favor of it instead.
