Headscratchers / The Prom

• At the opening night of Eleanor, Barry calls Angie a MILF. Then her child(ren?)are literally never mentioned again.
  • MILF is sometimes just used in reference to women past a certain age who have the "look", it isn't necessarily literal.
• James Madison High doesn't have a drama dept, but how are the students able to pull off the carefully choreographed promposals?
  • They may not have theatre classes, but there's always room for dance classes/clubs.
  • It's a musical so the choreography is often imaginary or not part of the reality of the universe.
• How come the principal can go to Broadway and see Dee Dee Allen if he's in Indiana. There are touring casts but it's doubtful that the Broadway stars would be in them
  • I imagine principals have a higher salary than teachers and he can simply afford to travel to New York to see Broadway shows.
  • Speaking as a teacher who lives near New York and does not have a particularly high salary, I went to Indiana to see a show last week. There’s nothing stopping him from hopping on a train or making the drive sometime during the summer and having a nice weekend in the city.
  • Mr. Hawkins also specifically mentions that he saves up extra money all year long to make a single trip to Broadway, and "second-acts"—that is, sneaks into theaters after intermission —to see half of shows when he can't afford them any more. So the New York trip is likely the only vacation he takes.
• So, at the start of the show, Emma and Alyssa were going to go to the prom together (which kicked off the whole plot), but Alyssa wanted to remain in the closet due to concerns about how her mother was going to react. Even if nobody had objected to them going, how did they expect to square that circle?
  • They're teenagers. It's entirely possible that neither had thought that far ahead, at least not at that point.
