  • How did Yuuji's father find Yuuji and his mother? It doesn't make sense. The mother and Yuuji snuck out and went somewhere as far as possible.
    • How does anyone find anyone? No matter how careful you are, everyone leaves a trail of some sort. If he really wanted to find them and put forth the effort, it's hardly impossible. Someone would have seen them. It's a matter of asking around until you find the right person.
  • Why didn't Yuuji's mother report being domestically abused? Wouldn't that have been easier than running away and pretending nothing happened? Or couldn't she have ran away and reported about the abuse? It doesn't make sense.
    • It's a cultural thing. In Japan, getting the police involved in what should be a "private family matter" is seen as shameful.
    • How is it shameful?
    • It's "shameful" because the husband and wife are not able to resolve their dispute and have to involve others (the police) in their affairs. One of the biggest rules of etiquette in Japan is "Do not make trouble for or inconvenience others, no matter what." In other words, your personal problems are a private affair, deal with them yourself. This is very deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and problems within the family are seen as private affairs that you don't involve "outsiders" in.
  • Was divorce an impossible option for Yuuji's mother? If she was so desperate to leave, why not file for divorce? If she filed for divorce, she could also consider a restraining order.
    • While a divorce would have been possible, the way Japan handles domestic violence would have made that option look like a bad one. There's no telling what her husband might do to her if she announced she was going to leave him. Packing up and moving without telling anyone actually is often the safest course of action left to people in her situation.
  • Why were Yuuji and his mom hated? It's mentioned that it was because they ran away from an abusive husband, but how does that relate to them being hated? Was it wrong to run away from an abusive person?
