Headscratchers / The Interview

Go To

  • Why didn't Kim Jong-un just send a body double to do the interview with Skylark? He has body doubles in real life.
    • Because he honestly didn't see Dave as a threat. Heck he even genuinely saw him as a friend. Plus body doubles are generally meant to be seen and not heard; an internationally important interview is definitely something the real Kim would have taken himself as the movie Kim did.
  • What makes Kim Jong-un so confident he can just nuke the United States without suffering consequences like the U.S. firing back at him? Wouldn't launching the nukes be suicidal to him? In real life, he would know that or else he'd be dead by now if he tried taking rash action.
  • So was that fat kid who was waving to Aaron and Dave really fat? The movie either forgot to tell us the answer, or they have made the fat kid an intentional Headscratcher.
    • He could be wearing a fat suit...
    • He could just be an animatronic like the ones at your local Chuck E. Cheese....
    • He could be a kid handpicked to get deliberately fattened up like a pig at a slaughterhouse and be forced to stand in front of the grocery store.
      • Or, he's the kid of some official who is important enough to be able to feed his kids to the point of gluttony in a country stricken by famine. In real life North Korea's richest families do have obese children.
  • Like Dave and Aaron suspected, why weren't audio bugs installed in their room?
    • Possibly because North Korea can't afford them, audio bugs cost way more than food and the people can't afford to eat. Kim Jong-un seems to have wasted his country's wealth on parties and luxuries for himself plus investing all remaining money on nuclear weapons.
    • Kim Jong-un may have decided that forgoing the audio bugs is worth saving money for his nuclear bombs.
    • North Korea is not very well paced in domestic technology compared to the outside world.
  • Why doesn't the United States military react at all to the North Korean nuclear test that shocked the world at the beginning of the film? It's clearly their responsibility to shield South Korea and the United States from Kim Jong-un, not two talk show hosts.
    • An example of Militaries Are Useless?
      • Even in real life you can't rely on the U.S. military to handle North Korea.
    • They may have reacted in some form off-screen, such as activating nuclear blast shields or missile defense systems.
  • Where did Dave get the bulletproof vest from?
    • It could have been provided by Sook, who is a soldier herself and can get a vest easily.
