Headscratchers / The Goes Wrong Show

Go To

  • We learn in A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong that the BBC blacklisted the Cornley Drama Society after their disastrous performance of Peter Pan, forcing the society to hijack the former production. Why would the BBC reward them by giving them their own show?
    • Anthropic Principle, basically. Otherwise, there'd be no show. Nativity Goes Wrong at least shows that their relationship with the BBC is still very fraught.
  • Why does Chris say "That's cut!" in response to the "For Unto Us a Child Is Born" song in The Nativity?
    • Presumably, the song was gonna be performed at some point, but had to be cut so the play could fit in the episode's time slot.
  • Why isn't Dennis just assigned to be the prompt? He can remember everyone else's lines but not his own, and he repeatedly screws up the acting roles he is assigned.
    • Rule of Funny for one, but more in depth; a running subtext of the show is that both Robert and Chris are horrible directors, and part of this is them being bad at casting. You'll notice in Annie's play, she gives Dennis the role of Bees, who (should) have no lines. Also, Dennis' ability to forget all his lines and mis-interpret basic instructions but remember everyone else' implies he's neurodivergent, an assesment Robert agrees with. If he was the prompt, he'd probably just screw up the lines he's supposed to give people... which would be hilarious! Why hasn't that happened yet?!
  • In the Play Within a Play "Harper's Locket", Celeste (Sandra) is marrying Edwin because her father (Robert) wants the family to marry into nobility and take care of her after he has died. Edwin is secretly sleeping with Celeste's sister Emily (Annie), so would it not be preferable for those two to marry and allow Celeste to marry where she will (hopefully convincing her father to let her marry Harper?)
    • Apparently at the time the play was set the younger sister, in this case Emily, is not allowed to begin courting until the older sister is married. As the girls' father is unaware of Celeste's infatuation with Harper he therefore believed marrying her to Edwin was the best option.
    • Also, their screenwriter is an absolute hack, so...
  • In "The Pilot (not the pilot)" who would Annie have been playing if Raymond Bean had turned up to play Wycombe? Would she have been stage managing as she used to, or would she have had time off?
    • Presumably cast members without roles do work backstage (I don't know, not a theater buff)
  • How exactly did Dennis treadmill get miswired to control Vanessa's in A Trial to Watch? The gym, like the morgue and the Inwood House, was a 2 part set, so the two treadmills were on separate sets!
  • Why could Dennis not be crowned in "The Most Lamentable..."? Based on Robert's crowning, all he had to do was kneel, indeed I believe he had already begun to, surely all that was left to do was so simple even with Dennis as the King, Sandra could get the play to the end.
    • Sandra said "no" when Dennis walked on, meaning she didn't want to crown him the king, not that he couldn't pull the scene off. Whether or not crowning him/the court jester would be worse/make less sense for the play than crowning Robert/The Relevant Trumpeter isn't clear, but I'd guess Sandra was angry at Dennis for the whole "the king didn't kill the king" scene.
