Headscratchers / Star Trek S1 E28 "The City on the Edge of Forever"

• Kirk and Spock notice and discuss Edith's speech where she predicts the use of atomic power and space travel to other worlds, with Kirk being impressed and Spock practically blowing it off as speculation. But why didn't it occur to either of them that maybe McCoy was already there and she had been talking to him and he was the source of her insights?
  • Because that is not what happened. She was talking about that stuff before McCoy showed up. They had no reason to think that, and Edith Keeler was presented as a visionary thinker.
• Did Kirk and the others think of taking Edith to the future with them, to remove her from the 20th century without her having to die?
  • These types of stories are about restoring the timeline. Since she originally died, and saving her life led to such drastic changes, perhaps taking her to the future would be even worse.
  • As well it was the Guardian they used to go back, and the Guardian that brought them back after Edith died. There may not have been an option to bring her with them.
