Headscratchers / Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling

Go To

  • So has Heffer not gone to the bathroom for the past 20 years? I mean that seems to be the case since he's just now discovering the remote control for the rocket stuck between his butt cheeks.
    • It's Heffer, we're talking about. He probably wouldn't have ever found out without someone else pointing out the remote control in his butt.
    • He was seen exiting the bathroom when the story first shows him in the modern day, so maybe it was affixed to his pants or something.
  • While it is understandable that Rocko doesn't think of it, nobody suggests that he watch the Fatheads on the internet. Given the constant use of modern tech, it's strange nobody even makes a joke about it not even being available on Youtube. Did they not want to give the audience ideas?
    • I mean, Nick is a Viacom channel, and given how litigious they are, they probably had that as a definite no-no.
    • And what about a Fatheads DVD release? No way it didn't get one with how popular of a show it supposedly was.
  • When we talk about Rachel's appearances in "I Have No Son" and "Wacky Deli" (both of which occurred before she transitioned), do we refer to her with female pronouns, or male?
    • Since the character was still identifying themself as a male at the time, the use of masculine pronouns (as well as the name 'Ralph') would still be appropriate.
    • In most real life circumstances, however, you generally refer to someone by their current pronouns even when talking about things they did before they came out or transitioned. A reasonable way to put it would be "Rachel (Ralph at the time) blah blah blah..."
  • Why was there no dedication to Stephen Hillenburg?
    • With the special being shelved for a year it's likely that Hillenburg was still alive when production wrapped up. Though it's a shame they weren't able to go back and add it if that's the case.
  • So... why is the special called "Static Cling" anyway? Is it a pun? A reference to something?
    • Rocko is trying to cling onto the past via his favorite TV show, which basically keeps him unable to move on, i.e. static.
    • ... Well played, Joe Murray.
  • In-universe, who provides the voices for the Fatheads? Rachel herself?
  • It's been 20 years and Dr. Paula Hutchison hasn't gotten remarried?! Filbert is lucky she doesn't have a new partner in her life.
    • Tons of people never remarry. It's not like it's impossible.
  • How come none of the characters other than Filbert’s kids aged in 20 years?
