Headscratchers

  • In Thunderhead, how exactly did Goddard access Endura's control room and mess with it to sink the island?
    • He's a candidate for a high-ranking position within the Scythedom, and is pretty well respected (in his duties, at least); it doesn't seem too far fetched that he would be allowed to visit the control room. It's also implied he knew exactly what he needed to do to sink the island, so he probably didn't need much time.
    • Also, many of the island's staff are implied to be "normies" capable of being gleaned, so it's possible he just killed all the operators on duty.
      • In both of the above scenarios, he intends to be the sole survivor (along with Rand) so he doesn't need to worry about anyone knowing he was the one to do it once the sinking was past the point of no return.
    • There's also a decent chance the scientists he worked with could have helped.
    • Goddard spells it out in his POV of the attack, he hired a bunch of engineers and computer techs to mess with the systems, then had them all gleaned so no one could learn his plans. He never went to the control room, so presumably the trigger was remote activated.
