• Robert Pattinson in Lost City of Z and Good Time was best known for playing Edward Cullen in Twilight, but many criticized the character as bland and uninteresting. The aforementioned films proved that he could pull off more complex and interesting performances.
• Steven Spielberg with Schindler's List. His prior movies were either fun action adventure, or heartwarming family friendly fare. This movie proved that Spielberg could direct serious and mature fare as well, with Saving Private Ryan, Bridge of Spies, and Munich being considered some of his best work.
